  • Can't log-in?
    If you are having problems logging in, it may be because your account has been blocked due to inactivity - send a brief message giving your user name and/or email address (no other information required) to request that your account be re-activated. Account is blocking is automatic, and activates one year after last login. It is intended to help protect user privacy and personal data by gradually weeding out users who have "gone away". User accounts are deleted after two years of inactivity. These settings might change in the future.

Help and FAQ

This is a help and FAQ page designed to enable quick familiarisation of the KSF (IoM) Depositors web forum for new (and even experienced) users.

This website was created, and is run by, fellow depositors as a central point where we can meet and discuss the issues and possible solutions.

The forum has no connection with any Government, Bank, Bank employee or other institution.

The site administrators do not condone or support any of the material that may be written by users and stress that all users wary about giving out ANY personal details.

Filtering the News Items
I get too many emails?

Tips to help you get going:

  1. Initially focus your attention on the light grey menu bar at the top of the page
  2. Read HELP ! -- which is where you are now ! (Return to it anytime hereafter)
  3. Click on the Forums tab & browse the Forums, selecting the ones that look to you to be likely to contain what you are most interested in.
  4. If you are a depositor & haven't posted your story, why not click on the Our Stories tab & post yours ? It will help you to get the hang of posting something in the Forum!
  5. hover your cursor over the other headings in the menu bar to see what they are about, & click on the tab if you want to see the content

The items in the RIGHT-HAND COLUMN of the page INCLUDE:

  • short cuts to creating new Forum, Group, or News item
  • a Shout Box for asking a brief question (a reply may not be instantaneous)
  • new Groups recently added to 'Groups' in the navigation bar
  • topics within the Forums that are currently most active
  • current/recent comments that members are posting
    (note that comments here move down quite quickly as people are posting)
  • list of members on line
  • list of newly-joined members

How do I get to the Forums?

At the top of the page is the navigation bar (Our Stories, Groups, Forums, Blogs, Press, News, etc.) Click 'Forums' and this will take you to the full list of forums that are currently on the site.

Alternatively, if you are not logged on, click on Forums in the left hand side under Navigation.

How do I see the new comments in a Forum?

Click on Forums from the top navigation or the left hand menu. A list of all top level forum topics will be displayed. The top items will be forums that have had comments added most recently. To see what the comments are click on the forum heading. Eg General Discussion of Issues.

A list of the sub forum topics will be displayed and again with the last time a comment was added.Click on the topic to go into it and see all the comments.

If you are logged on you will see under the Replies column, how many new comments have been added since you last viewed that forum. Click on this number (eg 14 New) and it will take you to the new comments.

If you have posted a comment/topic/news item or a group member, please go to My Account when you are logged in and click on the Track button at the end. This will filter the results to just be those you have currently participated in.

Where is the latest News?

There is a new section for news articles. Click on In the News on the top right hand corner of the site.This will display news articles added by users with the most recent first. To view the article click on the Link.

What does Subscribing do?

Subscribing means you will receive automatic emails when comments, topics, news items are added depending on what you subscribe to.

Where you see a link Subscribe to:…. Clicking on the link will turn on subscription to that item

Subscribe to :This Post
This will send you emails for all comments added to that specific post

Subscribe to: Posts by [username]
This will send you emails for all comments added by that user

Subscribe to:Posts of type [xxxxxx]
This will send you emails for all posts of the type listed in the [].

How to unsubscribe?

On the emails you receive with posts on them, please follow the instructions on how to unsubscribe.

Comments vs Replies

When someone has posted a Topic for discussion you can either add a comment or reply to a comment someone else has made.

Use reply if you directly want to reply to a previous post by another user, replies will be indented from the original so that a reader can see the thread of the conversation

Use Add Comment if you wish to start your own thread of conversation under a topic that has been posted

How to add a comment?

In order to add a comment, post a reply to a forum you will need to be logged on.If you are not logged on you will not be able to do this

If you are wanting to reply to a specific comment then click the Reply link which will be just under the comment. Enter a Subject and then your comment. If you wish to format your comment then please follow the instructions under the comment box, please note you do not have to do this, you can just add the text.

Enter the text exactly as it is shown in the image and click Preview.Check your comment and click Save to put the comment live on the website

If you want to add a new comment to a topic that has been posted, click the Add Comment link which will be underneath the original post towards the top of the page.

Difference between Groups and Forums?

Forums show a topic based view whereas Groups show an audience based view.

A Group might be for a geographical location such as the USA, or a profession such as lawyers. An item can therefore be posted into more than one Group,
whereas it will only ever have a single topic in the Forum

Who can post comments?

Any logged on member of the site

I want to read all posts by a certain User?

At the top of the page of a topic you will see the main topic text, at the bottom of this are a number of options.

A few will begin with Subscribe to….. click on the one that says Subscribe to: posts from [username], you will then receive emails when this user posts comments.

How to add a News Item

Before adding a news item please have a quick check that it is not already posted

Towards the top right hand corner, just below the black header section, click on the text “Create new News Item”

How do I Register?

If you want to receive automatic updates and to add comments or any other content you must register with the site

On the left hand menu, underneath the Logon boxes is a link to Create Account, click on this

Enter a username (please do not use your real name for this), an email address and a password.You will need to re-enter your password to ensure it is correct

Please read the the Terms of Use and click the box at the bottom “I agree with these terms” if you agree to the terms. NB if you do not fill in all of the above you will not be able to create an account

CAPTCHA

The next box has a heading of CAPTCHA – please enter into the text box the EXACT text that is displayed in the image

Click on Create New Account

Search

There is a Search box in the top left hand corner of the site, enter the text you would like to find, eg legal action and click the Search button.All results will be displayed in the central section of the site

How do I not display all of the text in the right hand bar?

Clicking on the right hand menu items that are in bold eg New Forum Topics, will expand or contract the heading.It may help your navigation if you contract all the items except the one you are particularly interested in

Groups

To join a group, click on the Groups link from either the top navigation or you will find a link under your username in the left hand menu.

A list of groups will be displayed, in the far right column titled “Join Link” you will see “Join” as a link, click this to join any groups you are interested in.

Why Join a Group?

Joining a group enables you to filter the data you see by only showing data relevant to that group

Changing My Account Settings

First logon to the site by entering your username and password.

You will see your username in the left hand menu bar with a list of items underneath it.If there are no items displayed then click on your username

Click on My Account

In the middle section of the page you will see your username followed by a number of different headings, click on the headings to access different information:

View – this displays all Groups you are a member of and how long you have been a member of the site

Edit – allows you to edit different settings for your account

Notifications – here you can set when you would like to receive notifications from the site – you can also turn off notifications from here. Click on the different headings Author, Content Type, Thread to see what your current settings are

Note – please remember to click Save if you make any changes

Track – will display where you have added comments/posts so you can see quickly if anyone has responded

Easy way to Subscribe

Go to My Account (you must be logged on to do this), click on the Edit button in the middle of the screen and scroll down until you see Messaging and Notificaitons Settings, in this box you will see a check box for Autosubscribe

Autosubscribe will automatically subscribe to any thread you create or post a comment to

Click Save at the bottom of the screen to save this setting

Changing my time Zone

If you time zone is incorrect, please logon to the site and click on My Account underneath your username

Click on the Edit button in the middle of the screen. Scroll down a bit and you will see a box with a heading of Locale Settings.Click on the dropdown and select the most relevant time zone for yourself

Once completed, click Save to ensure you save your settings

I only want to see replies to items I have posted or comments I’ve made?

If you have posted a comment/topic/news item or a group member, please go to My Account when you are logged in and click on the Track button at the end.This will filter the results to just be those you have currently participated in

There is so much information how do I filter it down to see what is relevant to me?

There are a few ways to do this:

If there is a particular forum topic you are interested in, click the Subscribe to: this Post link which will be just underneath the original topic that was posted. You will need to be logged on to do this.

You will then receive emails when the post is updated, or when logged in, under your username on the left hand side, click on My Unread

To view any forums that you have participated in only, go into My Account and click on Track – this will display all that you have been involved in and highlight if new posts have been made

Filtering the News Items

When you are in the news section – click on In the News in the top right hand menu in the black section of the site – underneath each article that has been posted you will see different links. Towards the right you may see options like Depositor, UK, IOM, KSF etc (these will change depending on the item) – click on any of the headings and the news items will be filtered by that category.

The category a news item is under is selected by the user who posts the item.
EG if you were to click on Depositors, the news items displayed would be filtered to only show news items that had some relevance to depositors

I get too many emails?

If you have subscribed to groups/forums/threads etc and now receive too many emails or are no longer interested you can do the following:

Click on the link within the emails you receive and unsubscribe

Whilst logged on, go into My Account and click on Notificaitons, from within here, you can change your notification settings.
