Manx Radio is 'pro DAG'. It is at the very heart of the media in the IOM. IOM members in particular should e-mail comments to anything broadcast about KSFIOM, & ideally be willing to speak on the radio. This is in line with DAG's current Strategy & Tactics

Well done Richard for getting a slot on Manx Radio! (:

With reference to Mr Aspden’s

With reference to Mr Aspden’s address to the Compliance Institute Conference I would comment as follows -

We are depositors in KSFIOM, we were neither investing or gambling our monies. We believed we were depositing our monies into the safe and secure custody of the bank under the jurisdiction of the Isle of Man (a reputable banking centre). We were led to believe that the bank would be well run and our monies wisely invested, we could have peace of mind because we had “guarantees” in place -

Kaupthing brochure

• Not only are all deposits held with KSF IOM covered by the Depositors Compensation Scheme … … all deposits, including those of Derbyshire Offshore clients following completion, are also fully guaranteed by Kaupthing Bank hf - with this guarantee customers have peace of mind that their savings are fully secured.

• Aidan Doherty, Managing Director, KSF IOM, in welcoming clients to the bank said … All customers can rest assured that by being part of a major European group the Bank brings added value to them by way of a much broader range of multi currency product offerings and services. All of our customers benefit from our ongoing commitment to personal customer service which is based on the old fashioned value of, “the customer comes first”

• Kaupthing is rated by both Moody’s and Fitch with a long term credit rating of Aa3 and A respectively

Since this time -

• In May 2008 International Investment names Isle of Man, “Best International Financial Centre”

• In his address at the Mansion House in London Mr Brown stated -

The IOM has had one of Europe’s fastest growing economies in recent years led by the financial services industry. Business is attracted by our competitive tax regime, professional expertise and sound regulation - coupled with a supportive government and world class infrastructure

Whilst Mr Aspden is happy to talk of our “risks” perhaps he should give consideration to the Isle of Man’s risks in developing a financial services industry but failing to regulate it in a proper manner ie a risk based approach, focusing attention on those areas which had the greatest potential to damage the interests of savers however caused, either through domestic or international developments. Surely he should have been “looking for trouble” and taking appropriate action. At such a critical time upstreaming a large proportion of our funds without any protection in place and relying of a Memorandum of Understanding which had worked hitherto and then to express “disappointment”, would seem to reflect a totally irresponsible attitude to the safety and security of our monies and is a gross dereliction of duty.

Not only has he failed the depositors in KSF IOM he had failed the Manx people whose economy is heavily dependent on the finance industry.

When British politicians can

When British politicians can steal your money it doesn't say very much for the integrity of British Society. Thank heaven I now live in a country where people are a little more honest.

No it does not. Are you

No it does not.
Are you surprised?
I am in Uruguay at present. For all the obscene inequality the balance is to the left.
I watch the UK media with their stories of police riots and political and economic corruption and I know I would never want to return, I do not think they have the gaul to sort it out.
I left because I loathed the hypocrisy. They have a chance now but it is slim. I am actually an egualitarian socialist, and have always been so, the society starts to reek. Let us not propagate Uk values anymore.
