Note on the editor/moderator role by Lucky Jim
The internet is trawled by many who seek out forums which they can join pretending to be genuinely interested in its aims & objectives.
These are 'trolls' who seduce genuine forum members into responding to their posts by using subtle, but controversial language. A 'troll post' may be crafted as intentionally incorrect in order to bait the emotions of readers, for the purpose of getting genuine members to 'flame' (get at each other in an angry/heated fashion). Thereby the 'trolls' get their kicks.
This is why all forums need moderators (editors) who can spot 'trolling' & 'flaming', & posts that are clearly not promoting the forum's primary mission -- in our case, to get back depositors' money !
The Forum's editors/moderators are anxious to allow genuine members to express their feelings, views, & opinions without being overly censorious.
However, the Forum has grown rapidly with thousands of posts & already there has been the need to moderate some posts considered to be inflammatory & not in keeping with the mission of the Forum (ie: to get our money back!)
It is an impossible task for moderators to read everything posted.
So if you think you spot a 'troll' post or you see 'flaming', click on 'signal as offensive'
One of us will then review the post & act appropriately

ROLE OF MODERATOR IN THE FORUM
Posted 17/11/2008 - 22:36 by Lucky Jim
Introduction
Like most forums this Forum has aims, objectives and a Mission
Members are expected to make contributions in conformity with the Forum's aims, objectives & Mission.
-- the Forum is not a 'free for all' place where 'anything goes'
-- the Forum is regulated by commonly accepted forum etiquette
-- the Forum has moderators to ensure that Forum etiquette is followed
Forum etiquette
(1) Posts are about, & in support of, the Forum's aims, objectives & mission
(2) comments to Posts are in response to the Post & address the issues therein
(3) comments under a Post that are not about or related to the Post are not acceptable
'(4) trolling' is not allowed (see definition below)
(5) 'flaming' is not allowed (see definition below)
(6) the use of vulgar/obscene/offensive/racist or insulting language is not allowed
Definitions
A 'troll' is invariably someone with 'a chip on their shoulder' or with 'an axe to grind'. 'Trolls' are a disruptive & divisive influence in a forum.
'Trolls' seduce forum members into responding angrily to their contributions by using subtle, but controversial language.
Trolls' will often divert a discussion off track in order to impose their own separate agenda.
To 'flame' another forum member is to attack them or their ideas which they have posted in a hostile and rantish fashion.
Role of moderator
Essentially the moderator polices the Forum to:
(1) see that forum etiquette is observed
(2) deal with incidents of 'trolling' & 'flaming'
(3) edit/modify or delete offending material & breaches of etiquette
(4) receive & act on complaints made by one member in repect of another member's post/behaviour
NB: In this Forum moderators are also editors, exercising wider responsibilities for modifying & revising elements of the Forum to keep them up-to-date (eg: revising the notes under HELP! )

It has been said that an ex is a has-been and a spurt is a drip under pressure. Ours, however are another matter entirely.
How do we want to structure and categorise information here?
Posted 08/11/2008 - 18:56 by ng
As the amount of information on the site grows and grows, proper categorisation and structure is becoming increasingly important, otherwise its like 10,000 documents all mixed up in one huge box.

Posted 08/11/2008 - 16:44 by ng
Blog and Forum postings are different types of content. Two other types are News items and Polls.

Reminder: How to unsubscribe to Posts etc..
Posted 01/11/2008 - 10:04 by Lucky Jim
Very active Posts to which you have subscribed generates lots of e-mails to you. You can stop e-mails by unregistering from any Post as follows:
- either click on 'My Account' under your name in left-hand column
- or click on your name
this will take you to your personal Account Page.
- then click on 'Notifications'
- then click on a relevant topic under 'Type' (eg: 'Threads') which will open a window where you can un-click a tick in a tick box.
Reactions so far to the "In the News" feature?
Posted 21/10/2008 - 14:25 by ng
Seems to be working well, any thoughts?
- Too simple / too complex?
- More categories / fewer categories?
- Need other options?
- Search facilities needed?
SLOGAN: Proposals?
Posted 19/10/2008 - 16:18 by ng
This thread is for posting specific slogans for the site. Can be two slogans:
- To go with the logo (which I think we should keep) in place of "Kaupthing IOM - We want our money"
In-site view of video links

Planning on adding facilities for videos links to be displayed in-site (i.e on the page here). Is this a priority? (I have lots of priorities already!!!)
URGENTLY NEED a News Editor
Posted 19/10/2008 - 10:03 by ng
Need someone to make summary entries for news items elsewhere so that these can all be found in one place rather than spread around the site.
