Send letters to your Consulate in which ever country you live.
These overseas reps of Her Majesty the Queen need to realise this a global problem.

This reply recieved on 28/10

We are very sorry to hear about the problems you are having with Kaupthing Singer and Freidlander (Isle of Man). We understand there are many others like yourselves who also find themselves in this difficult situation.

Unfortunately our Consulate cannot get involved in individual disputes relating to private investments as this goes beyond our remit and capacity. However, we have consulted colleagues in London and they have advised that you send your below email to the Treasury's Central Enquiry Unit at the following address: CEU [dot] Enquiries(?)hm-treasury [dot] x [dot] gsi [dot] gov [dot] uk

We wish you the best in finding a satisfactory solution.

Regards
British Consulate-General, Madrid

Contacted my B.C. at my local consulate on 14th Oct 08,they replied 17th Oct, quote,We are sorry to learn about the difficult financial situation you are experiecing. We are unable to offer ANY direct support to you under your present circcumstances. However,we are making enquiries to the appropriate authorities and organisations who WILL BE IN A POSITION TO PROPERLY ASSIST OR ADVISE YOU.We will revert as soon as we have any information.Havent heard anything since. This person,Im told has just been recruited from the hotel industry,I beleive these organisations are merely messengers, and not proactive in looking after British Citizens,if the source of the problem is not within their jurisdiction.Part of my question to them was how do I retreive our UK state pension payments, which have become inaccesable, and were paid direct into KSF-IOM,by DWP.The same question was put to the Pensions Advisory Service, basically they were not intrested either.Says a lot for UK policy on poverty, especialy pensioners.

Did anyone in Middle East get a reply from any ambassador?

I did not

Despite being rung up when Gordon B was in UAE last week by the ambassadors secretary and told he would reply in due course, nothing has arrived.

Has anyone had anything useful back from any consulate or embassy?

Was anyone really expecting a reply?
There is not much they can do and it is The Foreign Office.
A group of people not renown (with a few exceptions) for actually helping British Citizens abroad.

These pool-side roles of HMG need to get off their asses now and work for us.
I will keep writing to the consulate until he is sick and tired of me
