If you're willing to help with the site, please post a comment here, describing your interests, skills etc.

Some of the work that may be needed...

Legal

I don't think any of this is urgent - there a much more pressing matters - but if the site continues at the current rate, those things ought to be done.

  • Write a "privacy policy". It's hopefully unlikely that anyone here is going to abuse any information such as others' email address or any other data they might find. But, people ought to be told what the policy is, who has what access to data, etc.
  • Write a "conditions of use" section. The same goes - we expect "proper" behaviour in terms of what people post etc, but maybe we should lay down some guidelines.
  • Other legal stuff - Disclaimers - this site is not financial advice, we don't accept any liability for anything whatsoever, etc, etc. Again, hopefully everybody here is "friendly" and never going to take action against the site's organisers. Perhaps the biggest risk would be some action by an outside party, companies, government departments, etc.

Most if not all of the above can be copied from other sites (need to be careful not to infringe somebody else's copyright though.)

Editorial

  • Editing or deletion of inappropriate content
  • Moving content if posted in the wrong area
  • Creating summaries of key information posted here and on other sites

Technical

I can handle the technical stuff at the moment, and the original site founders are on hand too, but I'd be interested to know who else among us has relevant experience.

Daughter,

It appears that the website is functioning with the current webmasters but there are other ways you can help.

Look at the News Snippets thread and email it to every MP. MEP, Committee, Sub-Committee, Journalist etc etc.
We have already had complaints from certain publications that we are overwhelming them with emails, GOOD this is the point ... Let us be heard!

if still needed? There a re lots of threads/pstings in the wrong place which is not helping to make things easy to follow. The many suggestions for a meeting have come to nothing partly because they have been posted in diffrent sections and have got lost! (great shame).
Let me know if I can help with this.

I think that between anna and ng, we have a good, concise and serviceable front page. Let's get on with posting it up instead of thrashing it to death. Let's just include our UK-based companions and point out that all the gurus had Kaupthing as a triple rated home for our savings.

I'll add it in in a moment, and then let's just do it (post it up asap).

I guess nobody has noticed this posting, given that things are pretty much "comment" driven. So, this comment will go on the list and somebody might then notice!

Hi ng.

First of all many thanks for setting up this forum, finding this was akin to finding an oasis in in the middle of the desert of financial despair.

One suggestion I have is would you consider setting up a Sub-Forum relating specificaly to Expat issues, maybe because of my own prediciment Expat issues mean a lot more too me ... Long story short registered non UK Res 20 years ago been an expat ever since. goverment policies forved me to freeze UK Pension and Deposit accounts and bank offshore.

If you think that an expat sub forum would be a good idea as to isolate specific queries / discussions from the main forum I am more than happy to assist in moderating it for you.

Regards
Mekong
(Bangkok based Expat)

Not sure, but I think the majority here are expats. Most UK based people were with the UK bank and so didn't get screwed. No problem with setting up a forum though, if its really needed.
