Unscheduled site downtime (2009-02-03)

Apologies for the site downtime this morning: I was out for a few hours and only noticed the status monitors when I got back in :(

I'm currently investigating the source of the problem: it looks like the database server may have crashed, leaving the webserver hanging.

i am so frustrated--my Acer laptop went belly up last week--dead m/b and cpu we think.
i bought another lap top which id dual core and fast etc.
However, I cannot get sounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got drivers and device working correctly etc and no alarms in system. but when i go to control panel on sound devices, it says no audio device--i am stumped except to think there is a fault on the mb sound h/w.
know it is not your job but really wanted to listen to Ziggy and co.

Does an audio device show up in device manager / sound,video & game controllers ?
