I am now living overseas and I tried transferring some money to a family member from a UK account via internet banking. Apparently the bank tried calling me, but they have problems calling overseas numbers. So they recalled the transfer and now the money is lost in the BACS system, so far it has been 3 weeks and no one really knows where my money has gone. Pity this didnt happen when I transferred my money into KSF at the end of Sept. This problem has occurred both with Citibank and HSBC. I was wondering if others have had similar problems?

I had no problems transferring funds last year, has something changed in the UK banking system or has fraud increased dramatically?

I think that the issue you encountered may be related to the amount of the transfer.
Most banks have a level at which they contact the customer to double check the transaction.
I recently received a request for contact numbers from a UK bank as part of their fraud protection system.
I suggest you try sending a modest amount--say 1000 GBP---if that works, then my theory is valid.

Good luck

PS
I made an inter bank transfer this week and it worked ok.

I regularly transfer money back and forth around the UK, in payment of my bills etc, using the internet arm of HSBC (F/D). Please keep us apprised of developments. This is worrying.

I was passed around by customer service at HSBC, the callcentre doesn't know what the web people are doing. If you log in now and try confirming your phone numbers it will try auto dialling and ask you to confirm 5 numbers as a security check. I suggest that you log in and give it a test. Also it was 1000 GBP that went astray. It was just strange that two banks implemented this at about the same time.
