This web site and its contributors are doing amazing things. I read it frequently and make my own input where I can.

My sense is that we all need to focus on one single "Position Paper" that brings together a detailed summary of the situation we are in, how it arose and all the constructive thoughts contributors have regarding a solution (or even options for solutions). There are some important parallel issues such as "in flight transfers" etc. but we really need a consensus position that we can send out, attach to e mails etc so that all our PR, legal and political audiences get a single message about what has happened, how unethical and illegal it is (is it?) and what we want done about it.

I am happy to work with a small group on this. I think focus on this is better than dissipating our time for the next 48 hours on odd comments and side issues.

Excellent idea pwakeman. I've taken the liberty of drafting a position paper. I haven't written one of these before so I don't know what exactly is required, but it should be a reasonable starting point.

Just to clarify, I'm placing this into the public domain - please edit at will and don't wait for my consent.

Whoops, can't figure out how to attach a file here so I've uploaded the document elsewhere: Draft position paper

Is there a current draft of the position paper?

Is there an up-to-date draft anywhere, or something equivalent? I am embarking on another round of letters and it would be great to have a fresh list of the latest key points to emphasise. If anyone knows of one please direct me. Thanks.

Dear allyourbase,

Thanks for your position paper - good work.

I rather think it requires technical review by cold-nose.

As I understand from reading c-dose posts, HMG has not siezed KSF UK's assets, rather KSF UK was forced into into administration as it ccould not comply with FSA requirements.
At that time, Ksk IoM had funds of +/- GBP 550m with KSF UK and therefore these funds are frozen and subject to the administration of FSF UK.

I trust cold-dose will review and explain the exact position shortly.

Good paper - needs more peer reviews

I agree with expat. This is a good paper but should also be reviewed by those in the group with real expertise. I am sure you intended this also. The one gap I noted so far was the apparent move by HMG which prevented British banks from processing transactions from Icelandic banks from as early as 6th October, which is a major cause of the in-flight funds being frozen.

A good summary of our position. Any objections if I send it to my MP, from whom I've received a brief reply after 5 days. He does say, referring to "The saga of the Isle of Man subsidiaries of icelandic banks". "I will certainly, along with my colleagues ,keep the pressure up on the Government to resolve this part of the crisis". He ends with "Incidentally, as a Crown Dependency the Isle of Man is not part of the EU--if it were then a compensation scheme would apply!"
I feel your summary may be useful to him and probably many other MPs.

Best to wait until it is edited...

Before it could be issued as an official Forum Press Release it would have to be edited for accuracy so that it is 'kosher'

Can you get me a link to those comments please? Or it'd be even better if cold-dose adds his/her comments into the document directly.

Please post your comment on the General discussion board and others, P Waheham, that you feel are relevant. I agree that the debate that has been on-going for the last 2 weeks has clarified the grievances (it has at least in my mind) and now is the time to formulate a concrete position paper. Regards to you.
