There's a hell of a lot here to read, within only a matter of days. I think we need some summary views, statistics, opinion polls and such. What do you need to see? It's interesting to read through people posts and comments, but can quickly get tiring, especially if you're looking for specific information.

Some initial ideas of mine - they may not be good ones, but are all technically feasible:

Opinion polls - What topics (and what questions)?

Summary views and statistics - E.g. how many users here, how much total money lost, average amount lost. Maybe even a geographical breakdown, breakdown by nationality, etc.

Files - Ability to upload documents?

Structure of forums - What topics and sub-topics? Anything missing? (maybe an "emotional support" topic, and probably one for this topic, i.e. site features.)

Contributors I've already seen a few offers of help. There probably ought to be a "legal" page and "privacy policy" on here. Does anyone have time and suitable experience to do those?

Hi ng,

Is it normal that I cannot edit News items I have posted (even immediately after making them)? Have just inadvertently made one with extra unwanted stuff in the title, but am unable to remove it.

Yes, normal in that it's how we have things configured. In the early days, the thinking was not to allow anybody to edit their own posts, so that we always has a full audit-trail of whatever was said. So, that level of control is no longer necessary - I'll change things so that you can edit your own news posts.

For starters, thank you ng for a great job! Is there a general search of all posts facility (forums, blogs, topics etc.)? If not, can this be added? We have now gathered several week of posts and on occasion it may be useful to locate a certain post by one individual using a search facility.

There's a limited but useful search option under the Read All option. There is a full search at http://chat.ksfiomdepositors.org/search - though it currently being tested for server loading. A while back we had Google Search active here - that ended when we closed off the forums from public access (Google cannot see the majority of forum content therefore cannot search it.) However, I do wonder if access to Google (and the public, on a read-only basis) should be allowed again.

Thanks ng. This bit helps. Not so sure about open access via Google. We are in a delicate stage and some of the things said here should remain open only to the members even though membership per say doesn't preclude infiltration. I wonder if archiving older/inactive threads etc. to minimize the amount of normally searchable information would help with the load. I am a firm believer in having a good indexing & search facility so we can get to the bits we need.

Ng, hello again. Chapeau for running the site so smoothly.

Is there a way of viewing all posts written by any particular member of DAG? I think such feature would greatly facilitate the navigation on the site.

If you click on the user-name where you see it displayed as author, or go to http://chat.ksfiomdepositors.org/users/ user-name e.g. http://chat.ksfiomdepositors.org/users/jkk - you will then see a tab marked track which will show you all threads that person has contributed to (original post or comment) - after that you will need to read through or text search if you want to find the specific comments left by that person.

In addition, it is possible to see a list of all comments or posts made by one person, but currently access to that feature is restricted - I can make it accessible if there is sufficient demand.

I think many of us would appreciate if you could turn that feature on. It happens very often that I want to find a comment made by a certain person but I do not remember the title or the thread where it was posted. Having a list of comments by user would make such search incomparably easier and faster.

Thanks, but I doubt it ... we're already near the top of Google results for any relevant search -- well, I haven't checked, we may be losing that position due to the site-split and subsequent action of "members-only" access. Google is not a "member" so doesn't see and therefore cannot index the bulk of what goes on here and the main www site. Anyway the point is, I don't think we would gain anything by placing GoogleAds, but thanks for the offer anyway!

Ng, is there a way to remove yourself from a group (e.g. the GEO groups are for people living in a geographical area not to reflect the citizenship)? I am sure that now, when so many relevant groups have been created, this will come in handy. If feasible, I think it should be done in the profile similar to subscriptions.

Reading through some of the forums there is some commonality eg the "report" by expat on whats happening in IOM.
Would it be possible to have along side 'our stories' , 'groups' etc two extra items there :
1. IOM/UK Relationship - (read only) so that anyone coming to the site can read the facts and thereby perhaps slow down some of the new forum topics covering the same details.
2. Updates - (read only) for people like expat, diver etc to tell all what they see as happening, rather than losing their valuable opinions in the mass, for updates of petitions, funding situation and the like
Just some ideas, I had better get back to 007 and see whats happening

I concur with Tricky Dicky

From one of my postings....

< "... there are number of statements flying around suggesting they are fact when there is nothing to support those contentions."

It would be great if we could have a 'DAG Fact' section on this web site where the ONLY information posted would be the FACTS as far as the DAG power teams (IOM and Ldn) have to hand!

More work for the boys and girls already maxed out in the back rooms, but it could be a central source of the only 'factual' information that we have. >

Yes, the last paragraph refers to people like you ng!

I'm not used to using this kind of facility you have created. I can't keep up in order to find the most recent information on the various topics. There are so many and new comment arrives so fast all over the site - quite often not where you'd expect to find it and out of thread etc. I wonder if many people can find their way round now. There may now be an awful lot of people beginning to miss important information and willing but unable to contribute.

I don't suppose it would be possible to have a dated forum that closes every 24 hours? All new material, regardless of topic, posted within the 24 hour period goes there so anyone logging on wherever they are in the world can go there and see everything that has been posted while they were away from the site. If I miss a day for some reason, I will know where to go and know how to catch up. Otherwise, I'm struggling more and more and users like me may gradually become lost to the site. I have 200+ thousand reasons to try to prevent this happening - this site is my life-line and sole support.

Can this be done????

If we wish to suggest additions to this list who to we contact or where do we post?
e.g. Today at there is a useful link to The Administration Order for KSFUK - including the order sealing the court file I am sure there must be more documents like this that it would help every one to find if they were in one place

Firstly, my apologies for having missed some of the comments and requests in here.

Search

We have (top left) a Google search of the site. This has the advantage of being very fast but is always somewhat out of date, because Google only checks our site every few days.

We have our own search facility, currently disabled. It's slower than the Google search, but more up to date, and with more options. I will look at re-instating it - I removed it because it's a relatively high feature in terms of server loading.

The underlying issue

I think the fundamental problem is a lack of structure in the information posted here. Put bluntly, there is no distinguishing between information and chat. The chat element has it's value, undoubtedly, but is probably not what first time visitors want to read. I believe the news items feature was a step forwards, and similar segregation of "forum" and other information will help further.

In summary, please keep the ideas coming as to what's needed. I will provide what I can.

I know you have more than enough to do. Is there no one to whom you can delegate the job of making changes to the site?

For instance, today we have, courtesy allyourbase, a useful post here which refers to Aidan Doherty's (KSF IOM's managing director) second sworn affadavit. Which should, IMHO, be on the KSF Legal page there are probably others, yet they fail to migrate there.

Also there other links in posts that would be more accessible if they were placed in a Links page. Things like newspaper articles, other websites pertaining to KSF(IoM) etc.

Is it worth finding out how many depositors are employees of the UK government or Uk based overseas charities who living and working overseas? My suggestions are the following

Armed Forces
Embassies, Trade Missions etc
UK based NGO
Other

I have been including the following in my letters to MP (I've written to just about all of them) but I don't have any statistics to back up my assertion.

"Depositors serving in Her Majesty's armed forces overseas, or serving the UK government in some other capacity have been let down very badly by their employer."

The new presentation of the site is fabulous! Clear to read and distinctive

Just one thing... would it be better to display the dates in the comment boxes in the same format?

For instance:

10/08/2008 is in the margin of the comment reflecting the joining date, and (for e.g.) 8/10/2008 is in the heading for the comment (and both are 8 October 2008)

It would be easier I think if it was displayed dd/mm/yyyy in both

Ng, with the amount of posts increasing it becomes very difficult to find information that is in some cases relevant. I have two suggestions that might help improving the usability:
1. Would be possible to consider an archiving of forums / topics which are idle for more then a week? The archive should be searchable as needed but should be separated from the main forums/topics.
2. Also, I think that showing the username on recent comments posts would help.

Apart from the fantastic job everyone is doing, (and recent triumph) I agree with other people using the site that it is very difficult to keep up with what is happening, and the order in which it is happening across the site. One person asked for a Dummy section. If you leave the site and come back in, you simply don't know where to begin to look.

Perhaps it has been thought of before, and I did suggest it before so perhaps it was rejected, but is it worthwhile/or even possible to assign a number to each message that is posted? In that way you can tell immediately which ones are recent and which are the oldest. Often a new posting will occur under something you have already read. (I know there are dates and times, but there again they are a bit mind-boggling... when I logged on this morning I read one dated Saturday). Then also, the Recent Comment could have the number next to it - as soon as you log on you would know how many messages you have missed reading. It would also be helpful if the Recent Comment had the name of the user next to it - not possible?

Go to Forums
Open a Forum (eg Actions and Strategy)
Open a Topic (eg NATIONALISATION OF KSFIOM)
At the end of the creator's message (first message in list) there are options to Subscribe to the Post, the author, etc
Open whichever you want

1) It might be an idea to find out how many depositors are serving in the armed forces or serving the government in some other capacity, trade missions, embassies etc. They've been let down very badly by their employer. Potential for embarrassment here.

2) Employees at KSF IOM who also had savings in KSF IOM. They've lost their jobs and savings.

Pretty much as header, and the reson for it :-

they have to closed (restricted posting) or people will post in them and that defeats the object - they'll be just as cluttered and un navigatable as the rest of site within a few days.

a good Q&A may solve some of the issue's as many NEW members instead of looking simply post a new question in a new topic or even start a group, also little reference if any is given in any of the titles, I know it sounds it but it's NOT a criticism of the moderators or the guys who set the site up in super quick time - but we now need to try and get things organised better, or we are going to grind to a halt swamped under a mass of useless data.

A good example was that petition of last night 20>30 different people working on at the same time copy & paste the whole thing each time -- it just doesn't work

I'm not at all good with these things but I'll give it a go - willing to try anything to keep things moving and stop anyone leaving just through frustration.

Yep I know a repeat of a post I made earlier.
