I had an interesting exchange of email with Bishop Patterson yesterday as a result of his comments published in IOM Today:

I read with interest your comments on 'digital wealth' in the above
newspaper. My parents worked hard for 40 plus years including my father
fighting through WW11 to make a better life for themselves. On the demise of
both my parents the residue of their estate was placed into a KSFIOM account
in July 2008. This bank was fully supported by an FSC approved Parental
Guarantee plus the IOM Depositors Compensation Scheme (DCS). Currently the
whole of the legacy had been lost.

Quite how you can praise the IOM authorities is beyond comprehension!
The DCS now appears to be a white elephant and confidence trick so much so
that another hastily concocted 'Scheme' has been put forward by the IOM
Treasury. Having obtained a copy of the Kaupthing Parental Guarantee which
had been approved by the FSC it's akin to one written by a 10 year old!
Seemingly though this was good enough for and met the standards of the
FSC!!?

Naive commentary by 'Men of God' who have seen little of real life is
unhelpful to say the least. It might of course be a little more palatable if
the content was anywhere near the truth!

The Bishop's response was:

Thank you for your email. It is always interesting to observe how calling
someone a "man of God" seems to absolve the writer from insulting remarks.
You have clearly failed to understand what so many of us have been trying to
do for KSF depositors. Such is life!

With kind regards,

Robert Paterson.

I still await a reply to the following:

Dear Bishop Patterson

Yes I and 90% of the rest of the depositors in KSFIOM have obviously failed to understand what you and so many others have been trying to do for us. Perhaps it might assist us all if you would elucidate?

It is surely more becoming of a person in your position to empathise or sympathise with people who are obviously hurting as a result of the appalling behaviour of both the UK and IOM Governments rather than to make inflammatory comment?

Regards
