The Manx Herald, our inestimable supporter, has not 'gone to the wall'.
The Editor has contacted me to say there is a technical problem that
has caused the website to be inaccessible. It is possible the site is
the subject of a DoS (Denial of Service) attack by a malicious hacker.

Hopefully the Manx Herald will soon be back on line.

In a free, law-governed country, the executive power is checked and balanced from all sides: by elected representatives, by public organisations, the judiciary and the independent media.

Are the “problems” experienced by the Manx Herald website initiated by state power destabilising a dissenting voice?

Is the Isle of Man a totalitarian state?

That Pedro Verdad was attributing it to the SOA.

I am pleased to report that the Manx Herald is now back on-line!
However, there appears to still be problems accessing full news reports from the Home page. There might not be a problem for those of you with Firefox browser.

The Manx Herald has had a DoS attack which has so badly crippled it that the editor is having to rebuild the site from scratch. Presently the site just shows initial reconstruction work under way.

@Manx Herald: Dos attack. Now that's a tribute!!

Obviously sorry to hear of the malicious disruption suffered by the Manx Herald.

But on the other hand it shows that somebody thinks that it is worth the effort of attacking.
Now why would that be?

The most independent press on the Island attacked, sort of says it all.
Wonder if the other papers will carry a report?

The Manx Herald is a one man online band. You see what you want to see and you read what you want to read!

@Dismayed: Your scepticism is appropriate, but...

My passport gives "Informatica" as my profession.

I agree that the Manx Herald is a "one man online band". But in the the land of the blind the one eyed monster is king.

My expertise in information technology does not lie with the web. The field is so vast and detailed that, as with other professions, we need to identify and access the most current in whatever field.
I would not know how to organise a DoS attack. Given the motivation I could find out, and I could access experts in this field. I do not actually know if the problem with the Manx Herald is really a DoS attack, but such disruption to their site is unsusual.
What I do know is that if it was such an attack then the attack came with the backing of resource. The attacks need sources, and they come from identifiable IP addresses, even if these are proxies. They can be traced.
No doubt the expertise of the -manx plod- is exercising itself in such a search at this very instant.

But what do you mean do say?
The reality is the reality. You wish to make light of it? Did the Manx Hearld say something untoward?
Or was it just reporting with more accuracy than the -established press in the IoM?.

To repeat myself... referencing Shakespeare.. There is something not quite right in the State of Denmark.

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
