Can anyone think of a way of finding an MP prepared to raise a question about our position at Prime Minister's Question time in the Commons?

I think that an active campaign to bring our plight to the attention of the news media (of all varieties) and to the attention of the MP's, the governments of the countries we live in, the Iceland government, the IOM government, etc. will keep the pressure on. I have been writing all of the above, and we can each do so individually.

I am a citizen of the US. I contacted our embasy in Iceland and they were not aware of the details of the situation but promised to look into it and make others in our government aware. I was the first US depositor to contact them.

Are there any more US depositors out there?

Well done Fred I am amazed that no other US depositor has made contact with the embassy in Iceland. I am UK resident however I have seen a number of either US citizens or UK expats in the US, who have posted on here. Perhaps take a look through the "Your Stories" section and other posts to find them and get in touch? It would be good to have the US on board. I am just finding it sickening at the moment that seemingly every other bank in the world is getting bailed out or guaranteed 100% to depositors except for ourselves. Our plight is "just" starting to get heard but much, much more is required.

Somewhere there's a thread about locations ... suggest you repeat that message there. We have Brits in the USA, but not sure if there are any other US Citizens.

Welcome to the swamp!!

I, too, have just mailed my MP. Received a standard reply to say that it had been forwarded to him. Will wait in hope that I receive some reply personally.

Last Friday 10.10.08 I sent the text below to David Cameron -''camerond(?)parliament [dot] uk"

Quote...

Dear Sir,
Would you please try and find a few minutes in your busy schedule and visit the link below?
http://www.ksfiomdepositors.com
This is a website created for the many depositors that appear to have lost everything with the collapse of Kaupthing Bank – Isle of Man.

In particular please look at the Losses Section and perhaps some of the Stories.

Like many others I am a British Expat and have had funds for my pension wiped out completely.
Whist living abroad I have always sent my savings back to UK and would hate to think that HMG
would let me down for ‘technical’ banking reasons – having bailed out Northern Rock and Kaupthing Edge – UK.
We would all be most obliged if you could bring this matter to the attention of Gordon Brown at you next PMQ.

Kind regards,

........Unquote

I did not receive an acknowelegement of my email - despite asking for one.

Suggest everyone sends similar message to any MP that they can, if we flood their mail boxes me must get some action.

I met my MP last Friday to raise my concerns that IOM was slipping through the cracks. He said he would write to the Treasury this week and made a note saying he may ask a Parliamentary question - he seemed to be interested in our plights but may need a little encouragement!
His name is Ed Vaizey and he is the Shadow Minister for Culture - www.vaizey.com
His email address is vaizeye(?)parliament [dot] uk

I'll try my UK MP, as [strangely] I still seem to have one!

I had previously explained the situation at some length, drawing his attention to the detail and this website.

Quote =

There is a growing concern amongst our community that neither the UK, the Isle of Man, Iceland or indeed our various home jurisdictions are concerned about our plight. We are, indeed, falling between innumerable stools - and yet we remain British Citizens!

I can understand that both the Prime Minister and Chancellor would wish, in the first instance, to protect UK residents caught up in this farrago. However, we are British too.

Regards as ever,

xxxxxxx

Sorry, missed a bit of cut and paste earlier ...

Dear Michael,

Would you consider raising [or getting an appropriate colleague to raise] a PMQ on the plight of British citizens, living or working abroad, on the subject of lost funds from Icelandic Bank failures?

Please please if anyone has a UK MP contact them. A few years ago we were in a similar situation, tried everything but the only person who came up with any results was the local MP. Although it was a firm not a bank we did get the bulk of our money back.
