I was heartened very slightly this morning, noticing the news items following yesterday's TSC meeting. I makes a change from doing a news search on Kaupthing several times each day and seeing nothing new.

There is even something about IFAs and the Icelandic Banks...

Saw this piece on C4 news including piece from John Thurso M.P who was on TSC and seemed sympathetic to our cause.

I so wish I could take the same heart from this matter that many others appear to be. Isnt it fact that IoM has its own regulator (FSC) and the London based FSA surely has no jurisdiction therefore even if the FSA was found massively "guilty" over this (which is likely to be years from now?) I don't see how this helps us?

I do hope I am wrong here

You are absolutely correct that uncovering the guilt of FSA in this affair is not going to help us in the immediate future. But it can provide powerful evidence for the courts in any legal action that we may take after or parallel to the liquidation of KSFIoM.

the TSC hearing yesterday has opened a MASSIVE can of worms for the financial sector, HMG, IOMG, FSA and FSC - GOOD!!!! its about time everyone in this 'scam' is exposed - it seems that everyone had a hand in allowing these corrupt takeovers to happen (singer and friedlander by kaupthing, and derbyshire by ksf) and everyone is now turning away from us honest savers who have been duped. at last, the papers are asking questions...well done Diver and team and everyone else who has helped get us noticed. we need to keep going to ensure 100% return of everyones money.

.

Not a proper fit
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has made a deeply unsatisfactory response to the allegations made by Tony Shearer, former chief executive of Singer & Friedlander. To recap: Shearer told the Treasury select committee that he had warned the FSA in 2005 that Icelandic bank Kaupthing was not a "fit and proper" business to own a UK bank.

The FSA, in response, says it "made a full assessment of the situation at the time, including consulting with the home regulator". But consulting Iceland's regulator is surely irrelevant. The FSA should make its own judgment. What did its "full assessment" involve?

"It is important to note," continues the FSA, "that the failure, three years later, of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander related to different issues." But that's a matter of judgment. Kaupthing's ability to withstand the global financial crisis surely can't be divorced wholly from the competence or otherwise of its management. Note to the MPs: recall the FSA as a witness and get some proper answers.

Nick Hartley in the Guardian is excellent too. Urges the TSC recalls the FSA to explain itself properly.
Also has facility to add comment.

Sambururob, pls can you post this link as I can't find the story or the journalist on the Guardian site. The Guardian is quite useful as it is more relaxed in its moderation of postings.

It's a good opportunity to post on a lightly moderated blog (unlike the Times et al) but so far only 1 comment.
