Hello All,

I expect to shut down this site and the http://www.ksfiomdepositors.org site some time fairly soon after the final dividend payments. At that point all user data will be deleted, that is user names, email addresses and any other personal information held in user accounts (to see yours, use the account link near top-right of page). All site content, that is everything we've written over the years, will be deleted too.

There are of course other options, including:

  • Leave the site unchanged and active (until when?)
  • Convert the site to a "read-only" version (no further posting allowed), keeping existing content but not user data. Again, until when?
  • Something else?

Comments invited, but I guess most people will be happy to let this all disappear.

Ongoing contact between members

Setting up a Facebook group would be one easy way to allow those who want to remain in contact to do so.

Numbers

From a quick check, it seems that around just 100 members here have been active (logged in) with the past year, and only around 15 more within the past two years. It's possible that others are receiving our "notification" emails but never logging in - I have no way to estimate those numbers. If you are one of those people, please login to the site so that I can get a better idea of numbers.

We have several thousand registered users in total, but I suspect many of those have "gone away" by now.

Final email to all registered users

I will probably send an email to all registered users here to let them know about the imminent shutdown. @anrigaut Would it be worthwhile to send one to let them all know about the final dividend? I'm guessing they would already know?

ksfiomdag.com

@anrigaut What do you plan to do with the ksfiomdag.com site?

A rather weird feeling really. I never wanted this job :)

Very best regards to All,

Andy ("ng")

I totally agree with others here: thanks to anrigaut and Gordon 45 for their wonderful work over the years. Diver and others of course did valuable work too.

This site, initially at the address ksfiomdepositors.com, was originally set up by Mat Walker, a week or so before I got involved. Mat, I suspect, was one of the casualties of our saga. I had some direct contact with him in the early days, but not long afterwards he disappeared. The fact that he has never subsequently attempted to contact me/us via this site or other means, I think, is a clear sign that he didn't make it. RIP Mat, and I hope that your kids that you left behind are doing well.

Probably/maybe keep these sites running until the end of 2020

Thanks for replies and kind words. I need to go through them one by one but this is a quick response to what I've seen so far:

Keeping the site until end of year

About keeping this site running until the end of the 2020 (at least 2 people made that request I think). Ok, doable. The only reason for not doing so would be the topic of personal information stored here (email addresses mainly). But, those people can delete their own accounts if they want, and just extending the current situation for a few more months doesn't seem like a big deal. So, I'll do that unless some other reason for not doing it arises (can't imagine what that might be).

Costs

@sunny1 asked whether I'm out of pocket for costs related to the site. Probably not out of pocket for the direct costs (hosting costs and domain name renewal) but to be honest I've not done any calculations on that for many years. The hosting costs are only around $8 per month (incl. VAT) now and that's been the case for a few years.

Extending the life of the site until end of 2020 will mean a further 8-9 months or so of hosting fees, so that's something like $65-70 or GBP 50-55. If one or two of you would like to donate that:

.. then please note here that you've done so so as to stop anybody else form doing the same!

The rest, i.e. my time contribution and how that relates to the donations received over the years - no idea and I don't even want to think about it! I don't feel taken advantage of and I don't think I've done the reverse. Enough said. I'll be happy to receive my 1.5% dividend when DCS get around to it.

Does anybody want the domain name?

The domain name ksfiomdepositors.org is paid up until 22-Oct-2023. I can't imagine why anybody would want it, but it can be transferred to another owner (at no cost or very small cost depending on how the new owner handles it).

I'm glad to have your reply Ng, and more than happy to help with the costs. I've donated this morning, while leaving a space for others to do the same.
Really sorry to hear about Mat Walker, and all unnamed others who did not live to see the end of the saga.

Further about the domain name - it can be set to redirect to another site - no cost for that. So one option would be to point it at a Wikipedia page if somebody wants to write one? @anigraut ??

Pure and simple - Thank you all so much. Kept me and my family going in the dark days. Gave us hope when we thought all was lost and then continually kept us informed of the ongoing saga. I haven’t often posted but this site has been a godsend. So very pleased that the whole episode is coming to an end though. Once again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart xx

The end of an Icelandic saga - full of big downs and ups, interminably long, and with an ending that isn't exactly joyous (given the time spent waiting), but is not absolutely tragic (at least, not everyone dies, and those who survive are poorer but, arguably, enriched by their shared experiences.........).
It's been a terrible rollercoaster of a ride, and bearable only because of the support, help, advice, contributions of knowledge and dedication to the cause of so many people whom I will never know or probably even be in contact with again. Your presence on these sites has been of more importance than I can express. Thanks in particular to Anrigaut and Gordon45 for their tireless work trying to explain what is going on, and to ng for providing the means for this to happen. I know there are others who have been equally tireless and influential in their pursuit of an ending, but who have not have the upfront presence of Anrigaut and Gordon45; to them I also send my heartfelt thanks.
I would be grateful to see the site running until the final distributions have been made to those of us, like myself, who took the EPS and DCS money on offer and now have to wait for some further unspecified period to see the final outcome!

What can one say.

From ad hoc meetings in Parliament sq, marching or perhaps strolling to the Icelandic embassy and hearings at Parliament the one thing that has kept us connected and motivated has been this site. Information is a god send when in a desperate situation and this site along with the very many contributors kept the flame alive and in the early days a flicker of hope.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this struggle and NG i like many others read weekly without necessarily logging in.

Thank you one and all.

I know you never wanted the job but I was so grateful in 2008 to find your site to know I wasn't alone ....
Since then I have followed both sites to keep up with the progress of getting our money back..... there were some dark days but we got there.
I can't believe the length of time since the opening of the site or the final payment back in 2014.....
Naturally my thanks also goes to Gordon and others who knew how to explain the ways of the balance sheets and what kind of dividend we might expect and when.
You were all a great help in keeping me and others, I'm sure, fully appraised and uplifted all those years.
Thank you for your dedication.

The web site has been a "godsend" for the geographically disbursed depositors and we are all eternally grateful for the people who have made themselves available to manage it as well as contribute to it.
Without the valuable information provided through the web site life would have been much more insecure and worrying.
A heartfelt thanks from me!

I just wanted to add my thanks to ng for his hard work in keeping this site open all these years ( and boy, have there been plenty!!!) and to Anrigaut for her tireless research, liaisons with the liquidators and keeping us so well informed. Hopefully the end is in sight but it still leaves a horrible memory behind. This was a vital link for us all in the beginning to share the pain and as the years have gone by, slight chinks of progress and hopefulness have crept in. Not sure how many read these posts any more and life has moved on, somewhat, but just to wish all, wherever you are in the world, good luck in the future. We never did get that meet up organised but am happy to meet in London, Manchester, Bristol or just about anywhere if ever people feel the need in the UK. All the best - Glen

I would also like to thank Ng for this website which I found early on in the KSFIOM disaster and for the support it enabled my fellow depositors to provide to each other. This site was particularly helpful in the early years. I used to look at it daily.

The depositors' sentence of over the liquidation period (more than 11 years) was by far the longest served by anyone who was punished by the failure of KSFIOM.

For what it's worth a potted history of KSFIOM after 2008 will reside in my own very modest effort at https://iombankfailure.com until at least mid 2021.

Well guys, I’d love to say it’s been a pleasure! It goes without saying that’s contradicted by having known you fantastic, fellow sufferers. As some of you are aware, this whole episode sent me into serious depression and anxiety. The thought of losing £700000 at the beginning was devastating. But now we’ve all moved on with our lives. Sadly, that’s not the same for all of us. How many did we lose along this anxious path?
Some of you have been exceptional and we all know who you are and I will be forever grateful. I don’t think there’s ever been a week where I haven’t logged in. In fact, several times a week.
My postings ceased sometime ago in, “to make you smile” Some will be pleased!, It was my release mechanism though and created a little distraction.
Anyway, peace to you all and eternal peace for those who no longer are with us.
God bless.
Mark xx
P.S please keep site open until the absolute very end. After all,we were here at the beginning!, x

May I first of all add my thanks to ng for keeping this site going through thick & thin, even when he really wanted to stop, and to all who have continued to contribute here, with particular thanks to Gordon 45 (whom I was delighted to meet for the first & only time a couple of years ago).

Discussion over the future of the ksfiomdag.com site is ongoing, but we intend to do our best to keep it running until at least the end of this year in order to be able to follow the operation of the final distribution, notably for those with claims in the DCS (or who claimed EPS) whose payments will undoubtedly be delayed while the DCS processes & consolidates the amount it receives and then sends out cheques by mail; given the much larger number of depositors concerned, it seems likely that this delay will be longer than the 1-2 weeks for previous DCS payments.

I would hope that this site can also be kept running for a similar period as there are bound to be issues arising over the coming months!

I would support sending an email to all registered users re the final dividend as I suspect that many of those who were fully paid out by the DCS will have long since ceased to follow the matter and may thus be totally unaware that they are now due some interest (albeit small). Only those who submit the required form to the DCS will be paid. Most of these fully-compensated depositors will never have registered with the ksfiomdag.com site, which was set up after the compensation was paid. I guess you could incorporate this info in the email re the running-down of the site?

I have never have anything to do with Facebook and have no intention to start now! So you can count me out of anything set up there.

It's finally coming to an end after all these years.

A big and heartfelt thank you to all the people (Anrigaut, Gordon 45, Ng, terrible jokes Cottesmore, and more) who have kept us informed and advised through the dark early times, and then as the whole shebang unfolded.

Although I seldom logged in, I often visited, and was relieved to get all the updates and analysis. You guys saved us all a lot of stress, and (without being too dramatic) and probably saved a few lives too.

Good luck to everyone in the future

Peter

I, like many, very rarely comment or even log in but have checked this site regularly to keep updated. Thankyou so much to all contributers! You've all meant so much to us. The blackest day when we 'lost' our life savings which resulted in my husband being hospitalised with a serious heart condition, seems fresh in our minds but also so long ago. We survived thankfully but the support and work from this site made us feel empowered. Our gratitude is immense. We wish every one peace and tranquility to all our fellow sufferers. Its been a long journey. But we've travelled it together, and thats meant we never felt alone. Thanks all xx

Dear Ng

I have been forever grateful to you for your incredible work on this site. Thank you very much. Your work has been a lifeline over the last 11+ years, as I logged in from the UK and other locations. I agree with deletion, although I shall miss frequently checking the site for news

Also: From time to time, over the years, we sent you some funds for site maintenance. I wonder now if, and if yes by how much, you are out of pocket by the time you close it down. Perhaps you can let us know soon and we can rally round like the old days - after all we're expecting a windfall.

Again, heartfelt thanks Andy for a long and difficult job brilliantly done!

Hello Andy,

Thank you for all you have done to maintain the flow of information and, with it, our morale and cohesion. There hasn't been a single week in the past 11 years when I haven't visited the site at last once, including in the past 2 years. I don't log in, I simply read what others have posted if anything and follow progress. There may have been others like me, benefitting from your effort but whose visits have gone unnoticed! Anyway, thank you, this site has been a life-saver.

Hi Andy,

Many people have contributed to this site over the past nearly11.5 years. Some like Diver and Antigaut have played an enormous part that we can never repay. But without your help guidance, perseverance and - can I call it your selflessness - when we all left you to it when you wanted to stop, can never ever be repaid. Without you and your knowledge and time And money we would have struggled badly. You gave all of us the means to talk to each other, help and console each other and really keep each other going when we were hearing virtually nothing from our joint liquidators. And you gave us the opportunity to be boosted when good news came. I will never be able to thank you and Anrigaut enough for all you have done. I do not know you personally and have never met you but you are my friend forever.

Thank you
Gordon 45

Perhaps we can open a new conversation thread in which we can offer our thanks to those who have played key roles in this process. Gordon mentions Diver and Antiguat, but there are others. Dare I as a retired PwC Partner add Mike Simpson to the the list of thanks?

My thoughts are very much in line with everyone else who has expressed deep gratitude for the existence of the website over these many years. If it is at all possible to keep the site running until the end of 2020 I would be happy with that. Monitoring the final payout and providing support for those who experience difficulties receiving their final payment will be very valuable indeed.

I have assumed that because I did not do anything other than complete the original paperwork for the liquidator this final payment will automatically be sent to me as have all the other payments. Given all we have gone through over the years my fingers remain crossed.

That is correct, provided you never claimed either of the two early payments (EPS) and that your bank details remain unchanged.
