Just spoken to my parents who said there was 60-70 people there to deliver the petition to Downing Street, quite a few press and photographers around too. They are now out side the Icelandic Embassy, two nominated people ( Diver and a lady) have gone up to speak to the consulate and deliver a copy of the petition.
My parents said it was good to see fellow sufferers and put names to faces, they said it confirmed we are all normal people not mega rich.... just normal.

Many thanks and well done to all - sounds like went down well.

Hopefully the reporters that attended will get photos and stories on wire, whilst the topic is hot.

Rest assured I will be searching eveywhere and will report anything found.

Cheers

The petition was delivered in the Isle of Man to Tony Brown (Chief minister) by Expat, in front of the Border TV cameras. To be honest couldn't hear anything anyone said.

Both Expat and Tony Brown did interviews which will no doubt appear on the internet at some point this afternoon/evening.

I believe Expat was rushing off for another interview straight afterwards. I'm sure he will be able to update in more detail later.

We were sold a Royal Skandia collective bond by our financial advisor as a way of investing or depositing money. How can we loose our savings in a deposit account in the Isle of Man - could somebody explain this to me? We pay Swedish tax on the value of the bond plus the yeild. We have not used the IoM as a tax haven. At no time have we had the Terms and Conditions from Royal Skandia nor from our financial advisor I belive that there are many more people in the same position as us who could take action against one of these parties for not suppling the correct information on how a deposit account works.

Elpasout,

I can't find the post by David Braddan, saying he didn't want be a part of the petition delivery....

This is the proposed change to the petition, but will be confirmed later...

  1. The Isle of Man Government has so far been unable to protect the interests of depositors in its jurisdiction.
  2. The Isle of Man Government has so far been unable to safeguard the Island’s reputation and credibility as a secure and safe jurisdiction for bank deposits.

This is not the final wording...so please be patient, while this is worked on.

There are a number of points that need to be made:
1. Hundreds of people have signed and agreed the petition as it stands. Therefore we cannot make sweeping changes otherwise we will have to ask everyone to sign up again.
2. the petition as its stands has been up for some time and it is very late in the day to try and make substantial changes.
3. There have been hundreds of emails, of which not a single one say they want the wording changed.
4. Many who have signed up to the petition have done so by copying and pasting the wording and putting their names underneath. So again we can't make big changes.

I hope this makes sense. We don't want to attack those helping us and the wording above should demonstrate that.
malc

The subtle changes you propose are helpful. But in any case I have spoken again to Dave and I have pointed out that the petition was drafted BEFORE the meeting with the Minister and therefore BEFORE we knew that they are "on our side" and have done as much as they now appear to have. In a sense, if they had told us earlier what they were doing we might have worded it differently! :-)

Dave can advise the Allan of this so I dont really think its a problem.

Anyway its a great job - let Dave have it as soon as you can.

Elpasout,

thanks for the understanding. We're collecting names at a rate of knots and I propose that I set a cutoff time so that these can be collated and added to the petition.

Its 2.00am here and around 8.00pm UK time. If we set the cut-off at 6.00am Monday UK time, is that enough time??

Thanks for sending details...

I've drafted some minor changes to the wording and Diver & Sleeplessnight will post the redrafted doc.

Once they take over I'll get out of everyones hair, face etc.

The wording has been changed slightly, but it still refers to the IoM government, ie it hasn't been taken out, just changed to sound less like a poke in the eye ;-)
