Right now I'm trying to focus on how to help increase the Group's exposure in PR terms. The new web-site is great, especially its more visual our stories. For a while I've been thinking it would be good to have audio versions of our stories. Here's the loose plan:

  • There would be a UK phone-in number (probably also accessible free via Skype) where you could leave your message. Dial-in numbers for other countries could be added if there were a demand. In the UK I'd probably choose a London number.

  • The resulting messages (after checking) would be published on the public site. In practice they would be links to the audio files, but most people these days have their computers set up in such a way that clicking those links would result in hearing the audio.

  • This would not be limited to "our stories" - anything that you wanted to say "publicly" could be recorded in this way.

  • The same audio material could potentially be used by the media - radio and TV.

So, I am thinking seriously about setting this up - I will fund the phone number costs (it can be paid via PayPal, so I can re-direct IT contributions.) But I need to get an idea as to how many people make like to record their story in this way - if there's a good level of interest I will get it done.

Thoughts?

Just resurrecting this so it doesn't get forgotten.

The details again are:

020 3393 4929 is the phone number - that's a standard London number so cheap to call from landlines in the UK, possibly free if you have some kind of all-inclusive package. For anyone outside the UK, you can call it cheaply using Skype. If you don't know about Skype - check out www.skype.com.

... If you want to leave "good luck" messages for Diver, by all means use it for that too and I will forward them - Messages can be posted on the site for others to hear, but please make it clear in the message if that's what you would like to happen.

Maybe an "updated" story, in-line with our latest press releases? http://www.ksfiomdepositors.org/view/content/summary?type=press_release

But yes, probably not too long, and focussing on key points. It's just occurred to me, if we get enough people contributing, I can build a composite audio file using excerpts from various contributions. Don't know how effective that might be - could be made to automatically play when anyone visits the main site front page. Dunno, just ideas.

Ok, this is in place, on trial. The idea right now is to use this to get audio "our stories" which will then be placed on the public www site to support PR effort. However, since it needs some testing, by all means give a call just to say "hi" !

Free call using SIP VoIP

Skip this bit unless you're a computer-whiz. For anyone who is set up to make SIP (standard VoIP) calls, you can also access the number via your SIP phone or software at sip:02033934929(?)voipfone [dot] co [dot] uk - If you don't have such a thing set up but are IT competent you can download free software such as X-Lite - http://www.counterpath.net/x-lite.html in order to call our voice-mail service for free (free because you connect via the internet not telephone.)

Who the messages go to

Please note, right now messages you leave come to me. If you'd like to leave an audio message for anybody else - Diver, Sleeplessnight, etc, make that clear at the start of the message and I will forward it to them. Not too many though please!

Our stories

If you make a mistake during the recording, don't worry - either hang up and call back or simply re-start the sentence and I will edit-out the mistake. By all means give your first name(s) but not full names (for privacy/security) or if you prefer use an alias.

Right now when you call you'll hear "extension zero is not available - please leave a message" - I'll change that to something a bit more friendly in due course.

If you want us to know who you (your user-name on the site), mention it in the message or send me a separate message, giving time of call so that I can match you to the voice-mail message.

Either this thing isn't working, or isn't such a good idea - or maybe people simply haven't found time yet. Anyone who wants to, please leave a message - any message you would like to give to the DAG as a whole, and I will post it here.

ng, why not just get folks record their own mp3 or wav file on the pc / laptop / mbl / blackberry etc,. and email, whatever format it's emailed in it can easily be converted.. would save setting up phone # etc,.

For sure, for those that can handle the technology - but many folks here are retired and such, probably wouldn't know how to get started with recording an MP3 (absolutely no disrespect intended!) A simple phone-in "voicemail" type thing would be accessible to anybody with a telephone, and would also mean that everything would arrive in a single format (no dealing with bit rates, number of channels, etc.)

If anyone would like to send in suitable MP3s, I will get them added as audio "our stories".
