I can certainly help out for the next few days - have to go overseas (from Oz) to the States for our older son's wedding - will be away from 22 October through 7 November. Really wish I did not have to go. Fortunately, prepaid most journey expenses before our favourite bank left town with our money. That's right - no refunds. Use it or lose it.
Cheers.

Now that 'Diver' is at the healm of the lifeboat he has stromy seas ahead to rescue your money !

The lifeboat needs more crew - & possibly a second lifeboat in the IOM - so if you haven't done so, and live in/near London or the Isle of Man, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR NAME IF YOU ARE ABLE TO OFFER YOUR SERVICES ON HIS ACTION TEAM. It will help if you specify any professional expertise you have that may be useful to the Team .

He is going to be extraordinarily busy so let us all give him the space to get on with the task (eg: no non-essential e-mails!) He will keep us all posted in the Forum of developments.

Sleepless, Jenren and Teapot are fronting media/P.R campaign nationally. - but need more international volunteers.

Brown would NOT like international press and media reports that he was not helping UK citizens and expats. Can send email but can;t take the calls due to time differences and possible language barriers plus they want to hear from YOU! GEt details to me and I will send press releases or flyers.

media assault team need to know who we can call on for intricate u.t.m info e.g:
Expat, bblair - great interview profile and in touch with Iom stages PwC
Hopper, cold-dose - in-flight transfers

more volunteers please.

Mat can you get press release out in Australia or are you struggling not to get on line?

Have e-mailed this to Geir,..clutching at straws maybe but I like the idea of trying to make gordon brown look bad and surely the icelandic PM would like to get one over on Gordon in any way possible?

Dear sir,

I write as just one of thousands of mostly british citizens who entrusted
their life's savings to Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Isle of Man.

As you know our own prime minister Gordon Brown was instrumental in
bringing about the demise of this bank by freezing assets belonging to the
Isle of Man branch which were on loan to the UK branch.

The same Gordon Brown now appears to have completely abandoned the
thousands of us who invested in the Isle of Man branch because, as non-UK
residents, we are barred from holding accounts on the UK mainland, whilst at
the same time ensuring that the deposits of those who were customers of the
UK branch received 100% compensation.

We are all also disappointed that the 100% guarantee offered by the parent
bank in Iceland has proved to be completely worthless.

I hope you can appreciate the extremely distressing situation now faced by
us,particularly as we have been abandoned to our collective fate by 2
governments.

I urge you sir to consider what you might be able to do to assist the
private depositors in this bank,in view of the the fact that we are
abandoned by our own government.

In such an eventuality the honour of Iceland and you as it's prime minister
would be satisfied in contrast to the the shabby behaviour of Gordon Brown and
his government.

Yours very respectfully,

100% behind you in Southern Africa

From the South Africans, Mozambiqueans, and Zimbabweans that I am in contact with - we are behind you 100%, we are extremely grateful and thank you.

p.s. Gordon (one of us) has asked the Expat Daily Telegraph published here weekly, to insert a news item for information for those who may not be up to date and are expecting payments from IOM (broadband is not common here).

About time! Diver we are grateful for showing leadership and taking on this task. I have watched the messages on the site with and as the days were passing, it became clearer and clearer we need to get better organized and we need leadership present on the battlegrounds.

I have to get on a plane now so I will be off-line for a few hours (no I'm not fleeing the country) but I will check in later. Mat, Teapot, Sleepless and other have my phone number if anyone needs anything urgent (although I can't think what).

Thanks for the tons of emails offering help and support from all areas. I will go over everything later tonight and tomorrow and get back to you all then.

If no one has disagreed with me doing the London bit by tomorrow I expect to let you all know who's doing what by early afternoon. In the meantime the PR is being distruibuted, the petition is ready to go and I'm trying to find somewhere that will let us meet up for free on Monday...otherwise Starbucks it is!

Thank you all for the vote of confidence so far. I do think that we should wait for our fellow sufferers in other time zones to have their say as well so I will not be too hasty in anything I do or say.

However I do believe in being ready for what is ahead. I will therefore need to gather together all the various great skillsets we have on here to get a team together in case there is no objection elsewhere.

I already know I've had a number of people really help me and others out over the past few days and I'd like that to continue. I would however like anyone who thinks they could support the London team physically or remotely to please email me via this website so that we can arrange to get to know each other as people not just as usernames and to utilise everyones skills appropriately.

Provisionally there will be a gathering to deliver petitions on Monday afterwhich I suggest a meeting of everyone and anyone who can come along (if anyone can suggest a venue...even better).

All thoughts welcome..please don't be shy...this isn't really the time for that :-)

As you may have gathered from my last input, diplomacy isn't one of my strongpoint's.

We can't wait we have to crack on, all thoughts are with them but they are not where the action is - that's here and in the IoM.

WE HAVE TO CRACK ON

Their input is valuable and necessary but only in email / posts as assistance - there's nothing physically they can do unless they have the time to jump on a plane - if they were going to do that they would be here.

Thanks for taking the lead Diver,

We from far down South appreciate your willingness to take up responsibility, and as self motivators, will give all possible assistance.

We are glad to have someone like you standing in for us all, because if it was not to be it would have been a lost case. We dont feel so isolated anymore and I am amazed at what you have achieved so far allready.

We send you forth with our blessings, so please Sir, go give them hell and more value for money that they anticipated!!
Kind regards from South Africa

as a thought, if we get half a dozen of us to represent the various groups, geographic locations, work streams etc, then we should use skype for a daily conf call where we update each other. one person should then post the forum... probably best for me to represent the Hoppers Legal Action group for now
