Very shortly (pending on server upgrade which should be happening today) there will be a pledge facility in place. Next step will be actual donations. If anybody wants to pledge via a simple comment, please do so here. The actual pledge system will be much more powerful, with reporting, sorting and totalling calculations.

See the Funding and Donations Group description for more information.

The "pledge" system didn't go live.. its here on the site but you can't see it and its not really quite finished. The objective was to gauge whether or not legal representation would be feasible - in fact things moved quickly - they set up actual contributions for the legal fund, and that made the "pledge" idea obsolete. Nonetheless, "pledge" may be resurrected ... we are moving towards a more structured organisation, and will need to start budgeting - one idea for example might be to hire a freelance journalist to do investigative work and write-ups for our own www site, and maybe other publications. Other ideas, such as "mobile billboard" are worth of consideration, again we need to budget and consider what might be the best use of funds.

Watch this space... I do think you're going to saw the DAG move-up a gear over the the next few days.

Thank you so very much ng and Matt Walker for this website it has been our lifeline and I cannot thank you enough - so many of us would have felt depserate and alone without this meeting place for news, legal and finacial updates, actions, reaching out to new friends and support. Sending 50 pounds via Pay Pal now.

PS Mekongs comments re this website are totally inapplicable absurd and insulting - where is his/her supportive and grateful spirit? If he/she doesn't pay a contribution I reckon you should lock him ut of the website.

We are in the same situation as "Relentless Posse".
Please let us know an address to which we can post a cheque.
The London, IOM and IT teams have been doing a brilliant job - here, on the edge of the Dordogne, we want to contribute in some tangible way to the common effort.

And thank you. Dozens of you good people have said similar things, but we are completely dependent on ng [and others] providing me with an indication of:

  1. How much we should be generating.
  2. Where to send funds.

Until we have some £-signs to work from, we/I have no idea what to suggest as a donation figure. We also have to accept that to some it will seem like accepting charity, which IMO is borrocks! ... we are all eager to pay consultancy fees to our Webmaster and others!!!

You and the rest of the technical staff & helpers have done a marvelous job as we thank you! The site is vital to all of us and I think we understand that such a facility cannot be free indefinitely. Now we must wait again until 29 January 2009 for any significant development. During this time we must stay informed and ready to act to achieve our goals. Also, during this period, the site can be further improved. All of this costs time, money & the right people for the job. I think it is time for a site membership fee and a facility to pay for it.

A very helpful email exchange with Dave from the IOM Team.

  1. Basically, the IOM are all locally resident, so we have no need to fund hotel bills and the like as we did in the early stages. That may change, but if it does we'll call for a bit of help if necessary.

  2. Server issues are covered for the moment, so no grief there either.

Relax, pour a glass of something, and wait for more news. From what I've heard privately, I'm feeling comfortable with the way things are going.

go mann - you seem to be taking the lead around funding. I am very happy to help in whatever way. Certainly if ng needs to charge a consultancy fee I would be very comfortable contirbuting to this. I would be happy ensuring that the burden of these costs fell on those of us who had quite large sums of money at stake.

Steve knows my private email address. Contact me if you need to.

Like you I see the news from Dave as hopeful and am grateful to him and the IOM team for the efforts they are making. I also firmly believe that the political/inter governmental deals are falling in to place and this will then allow more commercially based solutions to move ahead. Lots of public sharing is clearly impossible when trying to do deals political and/or commercial. I remain optimistic. I hope not naively so.

I would suggest that an surplus from the donations made to the Sefton Hotel IoM (now that Steve has gone home) should be put towards admin costs of ng. I cannot be sure there was a surplus but Dave Braddan (IoM resident and IoM team stalwart) is going to find out from Sefton. When I was in IOM for 10 days working with Steve and Dave (not staying at Sefton btw) there were many donations (inc a £1000 credit against a function booking) so I strongly suspect there is money there. Whether they will let us have it back is another matter!

Yeah, and must give public thanks to Sefton for allowing that £1000 as a credit from our Company's lost deposit for a block booking this summer. They didn't have to do that, and greatly appreciate their generosity in this respect.

What about putting some kind of funding in place for all the hours that ng puts into the running of our web site? I'm sure that there are other people involved, who deserve some kind of compensation. Maybe someone from the "inside" can set this up? These people are our life line and I thank them with all my heart.

Thank you for that thought. In fact, things are getting to the point where I cannot continue working on this project for free, and will be posting a full explanation shortly. However, I'm kind of weird about accepting "donations" (would maybe make me feel I've hit rock bottom) and so would prefer to label it "professional fees" (this is my profession.) So, since the topic has come up here, that's where I'm headed, but there will be a detailed explanation and the Group will have the option of finding an alternative supplier.

I've had a useful chat with Sleepless today, and I still need to touch base with a couple of others like ng and Ziggy. This is therefore what would be called, in military terms, a Warning Order.

The bottom line, which I now put at the top, is that there is a moral requirement to put up a bit of cash to support those who are supporting us. The Legal subscriptions are one aspect, and some will be more siezed by that than others. However, on a simple everyday level, there is a need [IMO] to pay some sort of "consultancy fee" to offset the costs borne personally by individuals in supporting the DAG.
In simple terms ... we should all do something to assist with:
1. Hotel Bills
2. Website Server Costs

Previously I've chipped in to support residents at the Sefton [I hope you didn't drink all of it, Steve], and offered to help fund the website. Steve will [apparently] be leaving the Sefton legally at the end of the week with a paid-up account, thanks to those who donated and, VERY significantly, the Sefton who did some very kind "fiscal management". ng's finances are a mystery, other than the time he has committed to the DAG, but there must be "core costs" there too.

If you will give me a couple of days to talk to some other people, I would like to be the focal point for a "Begging Bowl" arrangement whereby we can make some small contributions towards the personal costs of those who are working for the common good. In conversation with 'sleepless' I'd like to think that contributions of, say, £5 or £10 a month from those who actually CAN contribute would cover the situation. However, until I've been in touch with those who actually KNOW who/what/where/how much, that's a shot in the dark. I'll try and get some better figures later.

Don't please bother to reply "Oh, yes, me too!" and clutter the thread ... as I said, this is just a Warning Order and I'll see what comes from communications with other "key players".

HOWEVER, I WILL BE BACK, RATTLING MY BEGGING BOWL!

Be brave, people. ;-)

To minimise workload, I've offered ng to run this aspect on behalf of everyone.

I'm already 2-way email with Expat, and with their joint approval I'll monitor the bill at the Sefton and let out a small scream for necessary funds when appropriate.

It needs a bit of management, otherwise there's a faint risk that Expat will get all his money back through hotel bill donations and we'll never see him again!

Bl**dy hell, it sure is, take a bit a time offline to unwind and try a blog, then come back to find this, started on the older comments first & nearly dropped a brick - working through and things suddenly looked a whole lot brighter, then the possibility of Diver and yourself in the one place - I pity the opposition.

I for one hope you do stay - but then never have I said I wasn't selfish.

I can appreciate what you are going through, been through similar cooped up in a steel box for months on end away from family and friends, however it must be said never with the additional pressure's you've had to face over the last 4 weeks. You've done a great job, coping with the pressure and getting all those doors open - quite how in some cases I don't know and probably best that we don't.

Anyway whatever your final decision I'm sure you'll have the support of all those here and a few new friends in the IoM. However how many extra doors would it take to get Putin's ear, now there's another budget to after.

All the best and take care of yourself and your family, they come first.

As a fellow sufferer, i'd like to firstly say thanks a lot for all your efforts and the site. It's a lifeline.

Secondly, our company had a booking with the Sefton Hotel for TT week 2009 for which we paid a £2600 deposit, which we have had to cancel, so our deposit was forfeit anyway.

So I spoke to manager of Sefton and he has kindly agreed that £1000 of this can be utilised by yourself for your hotel expenses up until you decide to leave (hopefully when we all have our money back)

This was on the understanding that if you didn't use it, it would be forfeit to the hotel anyway.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your continuing efforts on behalf of ALL depositors.

With that information, we can then all throw appropriate sums of money at the Sefton.
