I think the site needs a new front-page, which probably needs to be updated from time to time.

* A summary of our plight
* Cover the issue of: we are NOT rich, tax dodgers, etc.
* Summarise what we hope to achieve
* Give a few basic guidelines for new users (can link to more detail elsewhere). In particular, users should not post personal info, names, addresses, email addresses etc. for security reasons.

If you can do it, please post here as comments - it can be a collaborative effort. when finished I'll move it to the front page.

Right now now formatting is possible (unless you know HTML) - that can be fixed once I have access to the server, which I'm waiting for from the original founders. Please use the following:

# A main heading
## A sub-heading
### A sub-sub-heading

Text _in italics_
Text **in bold**

Thanks ng, and all those who produced the new look website. I know you're probably tired of reading all the incessant gratitude from the folks on the sidelines, but I'm going to say it anyway. You're a gem.

And continued thanks to the people (the Divers, Expats, Cold doses...I've omitted some, but we know who you are) who are fighting our cause.

New format and style are great. Well done.

(Very) minor point: The boundary lines (borders) for input boxes (ie when entering comments or logging-in) are a tad faint so hard to see.

It would appear to be a specific issue with IE as it's fine in firefox and safari. My IE is also showing amazingly large lettering.....quite useful when you first wake up and cant focus too well :-)

For goodness sake, remove that word from the cartoon on the front page. Do you honestly think that's the image we want projected? Indeed, remove the entire cartoon. Not funny. Not wise.

I think the cartoon has probably made us all laugh, but it makes me cringe because I just think what it projects when visitors to our site come here...

"Oh, at least they're having a laugh about it all - they can't be that hard-up".

I feel it's a serious matter and whilst we can joke, it is definitely not the right image.

Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander (Isle of Man) depositors action site

This site was created 36 hours after the collapse of Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander (Isle of Man), a place where depositors large and small are coming together to work to safeguard our futures. The site is evolving as depositors join and the situation changes. It certainly isn't perfect but it is a platform where we can share both our worries and deep concerns, but also our ideas and energy to fight what has happened to our savings. If you are a depositor with KSF (IoM), please sign up and join us.

Who are we?

We are UK residents and expatriate people living all over the world. Many of us are British, but not all. We are women and men, old and young, working and retired. Some of us are business people, some of us are teachers, development workers, environmentalists, ordinary paper shufflers earning very average salaries. Some of us had tens of thousands of pounds saved in KSF, the majority of us had much less. Whatever the amount, the impact has been the same; we have lost our life's savings and face a scary and uncertain future.

Why did we save with KSF (IoM)?

UK residents who deposited with KSF (IoM) generally did so because we were able to obtain a slightly higher interest rate with a proper tax status, paying UK tax interest earned. Others had no choice, when their savings were transferred from The Derbyshire Building Society. Kaupthing Edge was a triple rated savings institution, recommended by many financial experts. There was no reason to believe that it would collapse and cause the catastrophe that it has.

For those working overseas, it is almost impossible to open accounts in UK mainland banks. However, as British citizens we wanted our money in a safe place near to home; the Isle of Man therefore seemed a natural home for our savings. Many of us did not choose to save in KSF. Our bank of choice (The Derbyshire) was taken over by KSF at the end of 2007. The impact of the collapse of the bank has been profound; many of us have lost our life savings (be they large or small) and face a very uncertain future.

What do we hope to achieve through this site?

Firstly to be a place of mutual support. Secondly to share information and ideas so that we can form a coordinated and coherent force to ensure that our plight is recognized and responded to.

Thanks HC. I'm going to use that but reduce the size of the headings a bit. Also, we can't say "Some of us had tens of thousands of pounds saved in KSF, the majority of us had much less" because the "how much" poll results indicate that was not the case. The majority (53%) had less than 100k, according to the poll. So I'm going to make it: The majority of us had only a few tens of thousands saved in KSF - yet in many cases that was our entire life savings. ... unless anybody has a better idea?
