This is my first post but have been glued here since it's concept. You see, I applied for the Kaupthing Edge Savings account just like my partner, skintagainnow. We both did it the same way via the same site but the difference was, I got Kaupthing UK and he got Kaupthing IOM! How that happened we do not know. Suffice to say, I feel guilty now and very angry for him and all of you. So, I've sent off some letters and started a petition at e-petitions at the Number 10.gov.uk site. Once it has been acceped I will send the link here. Meanwhile here are copies of the letter and petition.
"Please, can you help? I have always, and still do, live in the U.K., pay Tax in the U.K. and like many others put my money (£125000) into Kaupthing Edge, Isle of Man. Now, no-one is helping the British citizens, both here in the U.K. and expats (who could not open a U.K. savings account as they no longer had a U.K. address) get their money back.

Mr. Gordon Brown promised ALL U.K.depositors of Iceland Banks 100% of their deposits back.

Am I not a U.K.citizen and a U.K.Tax payer?

Is the Isle of Man not part of the U.K?

Putting savings into Isle of Man seemed sensible as it is (was) a high interest account paying 6.5%p.a. with easy acsess. It had NOTHING to do with Tax evasion as many people are unjustly accusing us of. The reason was the Interest rate and nothing else! Kaupthing Ilse of Man, had an excellent reputation and was thought to be an extremely safe bank, recommended by both moneysupermarket and Motely Fool. Even the Financial times recommended savers to it!

Many of us are now penniless, myself included. Are we to loose our homes because we have no money to pay mortgages, die of hypothermia because we have no money to pay for heating during the winter, scrape to feed our kids before ourselves?

Why are we being discriminated against?

Please HELP us.

Yours sincerely but desperately,

Alexandra Bale

And the petition is -

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Include U.K.depositors in Kaupthing Edge Bank in the Isle of Man in the 100% guarantee to all other Icelandic Bank depositors in the UK

ng / a n other moderator can one of you remove my other half's details - I've tried on her laptop as she was still logged in but I can't edit the topic.

Tried to check online but can't confirm that it has been lodged with No 10 so will ask when she wakes up. If it's not I'll do some quick editing - there's a few things on the petition some already pointed out that should be clarified / edited and repost, if still possible to do does anyone has any idea's or additions please post. If it is lodged what's the consensus just leave as is ??

Firstly I apologise if this comes up twice. My husband has tried to post it but thinks he has not got it through so has emailed it to me to post.

What does the phrase '...UK depositors in Icelandic Banks in the UK ..' mean? UK depositers in the UK or Icelandic banks in the UK? What about UK depositors not in the UK? What about the non British depositors who have been caught up in this?
Why is it limited to Kaupthing Edge and not KSFIOM as well?
The point that needs to be made to the PM and others is that the Govt's actions precipitated the collapse. Even if they did not freeze KSFIOM's directly held assets, as now appears to be the case from comments elsewhere on this website, puting KSF UK into administration cut off funds to KSFIOM, causing the collapse. The confusion brought about by imprecise statements regarding the freezing of Icelandic Bank's assets also undermined confidence in KSFIOM.
I would suggest the wording of the petition should be closely reviewed to make sure it cannot be read in two ways and to ensure that it does not split this group into a Kaupthing Edge faction and a KSFIOM faction. This needs to remain a united call for justice.

Oh dear, I do hope my post has not split this group into two factions. That indeed was farthest from my mind. My apologies for any misunderstandings. As I said at the end of my post, I believe we can win if we all stick together and fight for what is rightfully ours - and for however long that may take.

Alexis, your letter asked a presumably rhetorical question "Is the Isle of Man not part of the U.K.?"

Unfortunately, as you probably know by now, the answer is a resounding "No, it isn't". That's the whole point.

Following on from the announcement yesterday, the TSC is undertaking an urgent review of the banking crisis and is inviting questions from members of the public. These questions will be put to A. Darling, M. King et al. I would urge everyone to pose a question asking things such as: do they intend to protect the deposits of all british citizens in any icelandic bank? Will they return the frozen assets from KSF UK to KSF IOM etc etc. Below is the link:

British citizens versus the rest of us?

There appears to be a danger of a spit happening here as there are multiple posts talking about "getting back the deposits of British citizens". I agree that from a media point of view it is much better to have British people on camera but at the end of the day we are all in this together and I would hope the intention is to act as one here and get a result for all. As far as I am concenred the UK Govt have a huge role to play as it was they who pulled the trigger initiating this whole mess, and secondly they are mandated to represent the IOM on the international stage to get back all funds for all depositors from Kaupthing (or the Icelandic Govt).

Imagine the outrage if the Irish, NZ or Australian governments explicitly excluded Brits from its Bank g'tees... We're all in this together.

Dont worry if Britain guarantees UK depositors only, that will create pressure for the NZ govn. to do the same for Kiwis. You should pressure your govn. and get on NZ TV. I dont think the UK govn will differentiate but just in case get on it.

there are many potential splits, the most notable being funds in transfer and not, and trusts vs. individuals. if this goes legal we will all split and fight each other for the pot.

for now united we are in misery.

I agree there are many potenial conflicts. Unfortunately I appear to be on the wrong side of them all!!: money in company and not personal / kiwi not British / funds still there and not in transit (tried on Tuesday 7th but didn't seem to work). Feeling pretty useless right now but I refuse to believe that a deal will not be done to resolve this. Here's to living in hope.

your best hope is that of all of us - the business is bought.

we are only in provisional liquidation, but every day that passes without a buy out makes it more remote.

I highly doubt nationality of the individual saver will be relevant in any solution.
But it's the British media that is important to fixing this, therefore British citizens are best for interviews.
Just a fact of media life.

Kiwi, don't think that the split is intentional or that there is any attempt to marginalise non Brits. It is just a useful collective noun, and an emotive one since the "other side" (the bad guys who trigged this and the guys whose support we have to coerce) are also Brits. Our deposits are recovered, so are yours. You're part of the group. Relax
