Just wondering if anyone knows if I can add another person to my existing account, making it a joint account. I very much doubt it but thought it could be a way of getting more money and sooner.

My husband and I took a 'trip' to the IOM on 22nd September last year, the purpose being to 'check out' KSF.
We were assured just how SOLID a Bank they were.
We invested more money with them.
I gave them a letter asking to make my account a joint account.
We completed ALL the documentation.

Guess what..... the account is still in ONLY my name!!!!

I have phone them, they have (verbaly) admitted an Admin error.
THey told me NOT to do anything until the court proceedings have been finalised!!!!

@viv: I spoke to the bank in person at 9.00am 2/10/09-

As far as I am aware the person I spoke to lied.

I say no more. I assume they were Manx.

I take great offence to your comments. Yes the Government are probably a bunch of lying incompetent bast@rds but to tarnish all Manx born people liers is harsh. I am Manx and I have a lot of money tied up in this bank but to start turning on the local people is not helping anyone. This is precisely why I don't bother to frequent this site anymore.

Absolutely correct on both your points and must say liked your sum up of IOM Government.

Sure that leaving emotions (that are running high) aside all would agree. Same would apply to UK !

Hi Viv,
I would suggest that you send a registered letter to the attention of Mike Simpson at the bank's address, stating exactly what has transpired and what you were told by the person that took your call at the bank.

I would also point out that to delay the amendment to your account prevents you from applying for the additional £10,000 Early Payment which you may have need of immediately.

You might also ask that he reply to you by email if postal delivery is a problem. In fact, you could even email him advising that you are sending him a letter by post. Use the bank's email address but on the subject line note it is Attention - Mike Simpson. However, if you do send an email you may want to leave out you account number for security reasons. The KSF bank email address is-

branch(?)kaupthing [dot] com

I don't know if the above will resolve the issue but it is certainly worth a try.

Good luck.

Hi dave8075,
I think you will find that as the bank was put into provisional liquidation on 8th Oct 2008, that the accounts were frozen on the same date.
You can phone the bank, and it would be interesting if you posted your reply one way or the other here - thanks

If you look at the EPS regs

If you look at the EPS regs it talks about joint holders at 'the relevant date' so even if you could, I dont think that this would help :-(

I had the same idea during the course of Oct. The bank is not in liquidation and we are asked to update our contacts and other detials. So why not the status of single vs joint accounts.

I got an application and submitted the documents including all the certified passports and what nots. No reply from Kaupthing. When I called I was transfer 2 - 3 times and was told to call back.

I also feel it is a futile exercise as it is the position as at 9 Oct that will matter. Nevertheless, it is worth trying just in case there is a change or a ruling on this. All you loose is a few hours of your time and a few stamps.
