So we can get a better idea of how much money in involved, please state how much you had with Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander when they collapsed. This is give us (and any interested authorities) an idea of how much we are talking about.

It does not have to be an exact figure, but as near as you are willing to state online. Perhaps best not to state the exact true amount for security reasons.

Invested in KSF via Aegon Scottish Equitable Bond. This is money that I advised needed to be 100% safe as it was earmarked for a specific purpose due in March 2009.

Had put the sum away to cover the outstanding mortgage.
Has anybody given thought to the fact we have been paying tax to the U.K authorities on earned interest for the past3-4yrs, so if they were happy to collect the tax, why is there no compensation protection by U.K authorities.

Like many - started with Derbyshire. Funds intended to buy house back in UK after years overseas. Now not possible. In IOM because non-Uk resident = impossible to open onshore accounts. Refuse to consider it "lost"!

Like with all of us it's not the absolute amount it's how important it is to you. This was our intended house deposit, the result of 12 years corporate slog and some smart/lucky moves in the UK housing market. Was just taking a time-out of the property market while we decided where we wanted to buy next....oh well, will dust ourseleves down and prey that we get it recovered....somehow.

I sincerely hope that we can achieve something concrete through group and hopefully wring some justice from the crooks and spivs that have stolen our money.

Opened account in Aug, built up account to about £31,000.
Monday 6 Oct @ 1300, requested BACS transfer of £5000. [Routine cash-flow]
Monday 6 Oct @ 1920, requested CHAPS transfer of £20,000. [growing panic!]
Tuesday 7 Oct @ 1015, noted the £5000 BACS was no longer showing as "pending transaction"
Tuesday 7 Oct @ 1900, discovered £20,000 had made it safely to LTSB in UK.
Then NOTHING.

I opened an account with Derbyshire initially, just a few months ago. In August and September I tried to order a debit card and cheque book and twice Kaupthing said my posted application hadn't reached them. Maybe they are correct, but I thought it was strange that the mail didn't reach them both times.

My savings are from many years of working and saving. It is all tax paid and I am a British expat.

I'm near retirement; so I've lost my future pension, my life Savings, my inheritance form my parents too. my husband is beside himself and not sleeping. I was a victim of Northern Rock and only put this money into Kaupthing Edge IOM in August! Saved my funds from NR last Semtember but............
Surely if this money is still in The IOM and UK it is still our deposited funds. We're not shareholders it is our deposits which are still tangible assests.
I also had a Swift Transfer go out on the 8th which normally takes 24 hours - it says "paid out" and "pending" on the same page, but the total balance has reduced amount - but still not reached my recipient bank. Surely this money is still at the Kaupthing Edge IOM "Clearing Bank": HSCB Correspondent Bank, Ridgeway: Swift Code MIDLGB22. I was given a phone number for this claering bank to try, but it didn't work - does anyone have a way of contacting this bank or tracking waht has happened to our funds midway falling between two banks?

Many thanks to those who set up this website - it's an excellent forum for everyone affected to pull together. I'm a British expat and have lived in the US for 20 years - retired last November after 40 years in aerospace. I'm finding it tough to remain upbeat in light of the turmoil in the financial sector. In addition to our KFS IoM loss, our savings portfolio has lost around 25% of it's value, although this is nothing compared to some of the heartbreaking stories on this website. Agree with several others who have suggested that the best chance of success may lie with the IoM Gov. taking major action on the Kaupthing betrayal to prevent their offshore banking business from being totally destroyed.

Expat Brit, and like so many others with the Derbyshire originally. No tax haven for me - been paying US taxes on it. Only reason to have the account was because of UK banking regulation on new accounts. So much for saving for retirement like they urged us to do.

Just moved to Qatar - talk of coincidences.

Expat living in US. Funds were with Derbyshire and were transferred across automatically when KTF bought them. Holding funds offshore only because UK banks would not open UK account for a non-resident. IOM is not a tax haven for me. I declare and pay US tax on the interest I receive.

I set up a CHAPS transfer for 100K on Monday morning (6th). Was charged the £20 and it appeared to leave my account on Monday pm. It never arrived in my UK bank account. According to the
APACS website, CHAPS payments are: "The main benefit of CHAPS is that it is fast, secure and efficient and the money is transferred the same day. Unlike other forms of payment such as cheques, CHAPS payments are irrevocable."
The bank was not put into administration until Wednesday. I believe the money was fraudulently siphoned off to Iceland. There should be a police investigation.
