We don't really have much time left if we want to get in front of the world press.

An epetition is a good idea, but must be in conjunction with the petition already posted and agreed.
If NG can put a sign in button on the site then great, if not and until one is then we must use the email address. Doesn't matter, whether the government accept the names or not, its the fact that a large group of people make the effort to walk down the street and hand in a written petition to the powers that be, IN FRONT OF THE MEDIA......

An epetition is a great idea as well, but don't dilute the effort already made, and remember this will NOT get us any camera time.............thats what this is all about.

WE need EVERYONE on this site to support the work done, and the time and effort that is going to be put in to deliver the petition..........people are giving up their time for us...lets support that effort...........SIGN UP ASAP

We need EVERYONE who is contributing to this site to work TOGETHER not in dozens of different directions.

WHY cant everyone support the effort of the written hand delivered petition, once that is done we can then concentrate our efforts on the next way of getting our point over?????

We need a time and place on Monday, we need people to agree to come, as many as possible.....

If we deliver at UK, IOM and Iceland at the same time on the same day.........THAT would make an impact and would make the news

All I do not understand why we can not have a epetition which people can sign and then represent it in person?? Its better than sending email as a petition signature. there is no proof. I am worried this will dilute our efforts.

Send me the text of the final petition and I will lodge it on 10 Downing St and provide like for people to go and sign it. We can then lobby the media once more to give this some publicity

What's wrong with a purely on-line petition? I.e. we display the text and they "sign" it by ticking a box etc - or simply like a poll (similar to the "how much" poll, but with "agree/don't agree" or similar.) Surely in the modern world this should be acceptable (saves paper, tries, ink, etc.) ?

The system logs who (in terms of user id and IP address), so if challenged we could potentially substantiate our claim to the validity of the data.

ng - I think so. There is a big difference when the epetition is hosted on HMG government server that people access from their own computer, I assume its captures MAC addresses of unique devices. Therefore could count as an electronic signature.

I am not sure the signatures actually count when they are done by email or on this website. Hence HMG in their ultimate wisdom launched an epetition. Do we want to go through all this effort to have a problem on a minor technicality? I would not
If we however have an epetition on HMG website with people signing it, we could take the electronic one created and signed by email and show that the numbers are by and large the same. Then there is no questions on the legality of it, numbers etc.

Ok, good points. However, surely the press and the people would be interested to see the results, even if the govt. don't count it as valid? Can't see why not to duplicate it here as a poll.

I suggest:

  • Write text suitable for posting as e-petition, log in on http://petitions.number10.gov.uk
  • Have the same text here as a poll - ask people to vote on both versions. This serves as public interest/media interest material.

(FYI, a MAC address is trivial to forge, so they can't be using that - my guess is they do a random sample follow-up using the collect name/address info to indicate whether they're valid votes or not - that's how I would do it anyway.)

As a poll, we get a graphical display permanently on the website.. I think the "how much" poll is a valuable asset on the site.. a "petition" poll could be too.

I am fine with the petition to me persoanl delivery and cameras is the oxygen of publicity which we need. The problem is that we have people spread all over the globe in this, we can sign persoanlly with the poeple we can get, but otherwise it all got to be email. its the publicity not the petition itself Andy,

Still no "button" or prominence. Why ?
If it's some legal nicety then surely bugga that.........it's us what's being shafted !!
People are queuing up to read and sign the petition (in readiness for Monday, not Xmas) and yet they can't find it.
Some people may return , some may not or may be unable to do so in time.......................

Is it a good idea to word it as amount lost? as this could suggest that we have already waved our funds goodbye.
Would it sound better as to word it as funds frozen or funds locked or amount possibly lost etc.

Many Thanks for putting the petition together on behalf of us all, it sounds great.

Same problem here - can't find the instructions for signing the petition although I read them the other day.

A suggestion - could such action items that involve all of us (e.g. the press release, the nomination of a leader and the petition) be posted prominently on the home page? I've found the updates on what happens each day to be very useful and easy to access as they are posted in this manner.

Thanks to all, especially to Diver and his team.
