We have been getting as many as five (or more) fake user registrations per day, probably from individuals trying to gain access to post spam on the site. Since a couple of years ago, the registration process has required me to manually activate any new registrations, unfortunately I missed a few bona fide registrations during that time.

I've now tuned the process a bit, and would appreciate it if a few people would help test the process. Just log out, register as a new user (use some junk name @gmail.com as an email address) and comment here that you've done so. Two or three people will be sufficient, five is more than enough.

Thanks!

I followed the instructions and clicked on the rating bar but I am still being asked if I want to delete my account.

Hi margaretta,

Not sure what you mean by "asked"? - I did send out an email to everybody last night on the topic. That was aimed at people who do want to delete their account, to explain to them how to do it. So, if you're referring to that email - sorry if it gave the wrong impression.

If you're referring to the fact that there is now a Delete my account link on the top-of-page menu - that's there for everybody, so that they can see how to delete their account in case they want to.

Can't stop the flow

Not only am I still being asked if I wish to delete my account after clicking on the rating bar, soon after that time, since I was then "re-activated" (it seems), I went back to try to turn off the flow of "Summary of recent posts and updates" which had suddenly gone from zero to about ten a day! Okay, I AM still interested, but I clicked on "WEEKLY updates" -- and it isn't.

I need to throttle the flow down to something reasonable as I will leave this weekend for a three-week business trip (sussing out the potentialities of the PHILIPPINES as a place to retire to with my Filipino wife). Obviously I can't have about 200 odd emails of "updates" from KSFIoM DAG waiting for me to read on my return -- so how can I fix it? I want to stay in touch, but I don't need a tsunami of updates.

While I am writing (first time in a long while) I would like to commend and THANK all those working in the backroom for our interests -- much appreciated!

At your account page under MESSAGING AND NOTIFICATIONS SETTINGS you can set the default for new subscriptions, but that won't change the interval for anything that you were already subscribed to. For that, click the Notifications tab on your account edit page, then Administer your subscriptions - there you will see the complete list of topics (threads) that you are subscribed to.

The logic here is that you might want to receive updates on some threads (or groups, or authors) more urgently than others. So, very flexible, but arguably way to complex. So, you have to go through them all and set them to weekly. Thereafter for anything new, the default settings will be used.

Yes, there should be a way of being able to change all your subscriptions to weekly - there isn't. I'll see if I can find a way of providing that.

Anybody else testing- I should have mentioned, please make it obvious that it is a test, e.g. user-name of test3123 - we have three new registrations today that seem to be real, and I'm not sure! My fault for not explaining :)

Hi Andy,

I can't find any widget that would register my 'rating.' But never mind, because I thought I would take the opportunity to confirm that I'm still a DAG member and to thank all of you out there who continue to work so hard to ensure the return of our money.

When this disaster befell us in 2008, I was a zealous participant in the website, posting my thoughts and angst, never letting more than a few hours go by without checking for updates. I wrote to politicians and newspapers, harangued whomever would listen and called the queen (I spoke to someone in, I think, Andrew's office - pleasant and sympathetic but totally useless).

I suspect that my diminished participation in this site and in our struggle is fairly typical. I moved on. I got a job, got fired, got another job, began earning a good monthly wage. We have over 70% of our money back with a promise of another 9+% to come. Life continues and priorities change. I live in a particularly volatile part of the world with barely any respite between crises. From time to time, I dip into this site for updates.

I apologize for my reduced fervor and participation. I never forget that you are there, investing your efforts and energies into getting our money back for all of us. My gratitude and appreciation for your continued efforts are boundless.

Everyone, be blessed. Peace.

Podcar

i cannot believe its over 3 years since this nightmare happened - have been a member of DAG 3 years and 6 days - and will support all moves to get our full money back. tks to everyone as always

Andy I also can't find the widget after logging in - but like Podcar this is confirmation I am still a member and check into the site although less frequently than in past years. Thanks all of you for our lifeline - our lives would have been so much bleaker without this support and group effort.

It's very simple. What Andy means by the widget is the place under his blog where it says "YOUR RATING".

Just click on whatever number of stars you want (it doesn't matter how many for this purpose). Over 200 members have done it so far. This will enable Andy to automatically know how many people are around.

PLEASE help him in this and don't expect him to do it for you!

Hi Andy (ng). We have just returned home to the UK after a bout of walkabout (much needed with time refusing to slow down) but we most certainly want to confirm we want to continue to be active members (i.e. being able to log in and read (and compliment and complement) all the very fine entries from all the other members who have been, and continue to be, (whatever their take) our constant companions over these last few, dreadful, years! I log in to this site all the time (much to the chagrin of Louise) but how else would we know what on earth is going on. We are hopeful for a full return and even more hopeful for a party at the end of it all!!! Thank you for everything.
