Hi everyone

A friend of mine who knows my folks has been caught up helping us out. fight theft adjusted the ad
And the good news is that cata has organised a leaflet drop
2,000 leaflets will be distributed in the IOM on Friday or Monday by latest. I’ve asked the temp agency to get the two people dressed in black attire and deliver the leaflets to government offices and banks, and the remaining around commercial establishments)
Costs:
£150 for 2,000 colour leaflets
£142.48 for two people working one day (7hrs) to distribute leaflets in IOM (£8.85 per hour + VAT per person)

following this, cata is going to try get another ad into the IOM newspapers

thanks to fight theft, grandmaparis and cata(?)vasat [dot] co [dot] uk

When I heard (or rather read) the news that the ad had been refused, my reaction was one of disbelief. This is flagrant disregard for freedom of speech - and in a BRITISH crown dependency. Would it be possible to go ahead with a leaflet drop?
Obviously, please keep my contribution for this or other actions.

Thanks to angry, kneejerk reaction resulting in ranting e-mails from some members we have just lost the DAG the best support we have on the IOM - the media.

There's a lot of us working VERY hard behind the scenes to get support for our cause in places where it matters . Now the enemy within has won a HUGE victory!

Thanks to this we are now most unlikely to get the publicity we badly need following the Court on 19/2. Worst still, there could now be a press campaign AGAINST US!

I despair !

Cool it Jim

Why should there be a press campaign against us?

We are the VICTIMS remember .

People arent all fools they know in their hearts that we have been hard done by.

Otherwise they wouldnt be so keen to shut us up.

What are they afraid of?

Its us thats lost everything.

Hi Jim. I am struggling with this. A very committed despositor spent many hours working on an advert (in your own words working very hard behind the scenes) on her own dollar to create a clear and compelling message which would grab the hearts and minds of the good folk of IOM. Trained, creative people spend many years focussing on the issue of capturing hearts and minds (I'm better at the hands part myself). She is one of them. Calling her the enemy within is just as much of a rant.

The message reads:
"Mr brown and Mr Bell, you hold the key to prevent another St Valentines day massacre of 10,000 bank depositor victims, and the financial future of the Isle of Man."

(this is the call to action, It then goes on to say)

"Please negotiate a preferential sovereign loan from the UK treasury and FSA to return our 557 million now. To save our bank, our lives, our income, our health, our futures and a healthy banking future for the IOM"

(compelling, pleading, and appropriate)
would it win hearts and minds? yes.

The advert was withdrawn on weak reasoning at the last minute, after money had exchanged hands. A good question to ask would be by whom and why, and are we totally sure these were our friends? Is it possible we have fair weather friends? Or did someone who follows this site put pressure on our friends? Or..... in fact, you could follow through with a number of other conspiracy theories.

I am not personally convinced this was reasonable, gentlemanly or fair play by the media.

I can hardly believe they did not expect some ranting following their actions. I think its a stretch of reason that one persons rant has turned them against us and I would futher suggest that by the very nature of the industry they play in, they probably have thicker skins than the rest of us, and can take a little pain.

This email is not personal towards you, I think in fairness both sides should be seen, and I believe that we might just have lost another hard worker, whos in our (every depositor whos lost their money) team, in the endless defense of the moral high ground.

This posting is disasterous?

First, let me say that I did not e-mail the press.

Second, it is not really disasterous that the press know that there are some very strong feelings amongst depositors.

Third, you ought to know better than to try to control the behaviour of a large group of people (unless they happen to be your employees), particularly if they are angry.

Fourth, you do not determine policy in the DAG as far as I know.

Fifth, the best support that we have is from the DAG lawyers, who are paid to represent us. The best weapon that we have on our side is the truth. The truth, denied only by those directly responsible, is that we have lost our savings through no fault of our own and without doubt as a direct result of the actions of the very people and organisations appointed and in some cases elected to protect us from such things. I do not believe that this fact has escaped the court, the newspapers and other media, the TSC and nor will it escape the public, even in the Isle of Man. The newspapers in the IoM are not about to organise a media campaign against depositors just because of a few angry e-mails, most of which will simply have been binned.

Sixth, and last, you are not really in any position to complain about depositors ranting. This is a bank collapse, not World War 3. It happened, and this is the aftermath. There is no fifth column, as you have suggested in the past. No-one is being blown to bits in the trenches. There is no blitz on London. Does anyone remember Noel Coward's comment about Lionel Bart's rather lengthy extravaganza musical Blitz? "My dears, it was twice as long and twice as noisy as the real thing" That's how I feel about some of your postings about KSFIOM's collapse.

I have no doubt you mean well, but you are overwrought.

Hi. i am sorry its taken so long to reply here. Apologies for not giving you a direct email response to each deposit. Just reconciling alone has been a nightmare. And many of you know I have been working flat out on getting an SOA affadavit in, so havent been focussing on the ad.

please understand that I was in germany all last week and sent a full financial recon to coldlightof day and asked her to post it on sunday for everyone in the name of transparency. As I can attest to, it is too much of a technical challenge converting the spreadsheet into a posting here. My sunday and monday were then consumed by SOA.

I am going to post a blog with a PDF of all deposits pledged, and paid so far. There is a gap between the two amounts, but we still did really well.

So whats happened

the Ad was mysteriously pulled by the editor at the last minute. Fight theft had spent many many hours negotiating rates, designing advert, and paying ahead of getting the money in.

The newpaper has refunded her money. She is going to reply below my posting here to let you know exactly what happened. She is incredibly frustrated and demotivated.

Grandma paris has been researching leaflet drops, and we have been discussing other alternatives of other ads.

So what do we do, we have £2395 pledged, and have actually recieved £1825 in. We did tell a couple of people to hold fire at the time it was toppling over.

So we have two choices, I can either repay your account if you send me your details, or you can leave it there and as soon as we have a plan b, we can propose it then, and you can choose to have your money invested in that.

Have written to the editor...

"I am a depositor with Kaupthing Singer Friedlander and have learned that your newspaper has rejected the much-needed advertisement that supported the cause of people like myself. Many people stand to lose their life savings, with retirement plans shattered and lives destroyed.

Can't you see that we need all the help we can get, to fight this injustice caused by the negligence of the IOM financial authority's actions last year, and the British Government's unwillingness to return depositors' money frozen in London?

Whilst you may be concerned about upsetting the Isle of Man readership, I think you should report on what really lead to the downfall of Kaupthing IOM and consider why the funds were transferred to UK just before the British Government seized Icelandic banks' assets. We want to see those people in the FSC held accountable for their mistakes. We were just bank savers who relied on a properly-regulated financial industry that looked after our deposits fully. We have been badly let down by the Isle of Man and now badly let down by your newspaper too at a time when we needed critical coverage.

The Isle's image as a modern, well-run financial centre is being severely damaged internationally and your paper's inward-thinking decision to deny depositors their right to voice their cause is instead making it look like you are all covering each other's backs. I deplore anyone to invest their savings in the Isle of Man."

Dear fellow depositors - I wanted to put this post in earlier, but other key members were unavailable - I was trying to arrange Newspaper insertion alternatives etc...like flyer drops in te IOM before Valentines Day.

So sorry to have to report this but don't want to add to anymore of your worry disspointment etc (which I know you are as all we all are).
Your donations are all recorded with total, none of the money will be retained by ayone like Liebenk or myself, or anyone else - for any of our own use or anyone elses - it's your money, your donation and remains so. You can rely on our honesty 100% which is why we are posting the donations for you to see). If we cannot find a suitable media alternative ( we all favour - and you like too) we will refund your money back to you in the manner it was sent: pay pal or bank draft or which ever method we received it.

I did thank most peope by email as the donations came in but as deadline pressutre for insertion was urgent I may have forgotton to thank some of you. Thank you all for your doations and support, and believe me no one was more angry, deflated, disappointed and burnt out than I was last week-since I'd been working alone on the Ad since Feb 3rd in touch with the Newspaers from Feb 6th and obviously te insertion dates wer for the days ledaing to Valentines Day last Saturday. I was a one woman ad agency for art direction, copywriting, Media space buying, admin seretary etc etc. I was fired up in gladiater - mode (in fight theft mode) and unfortuntely we are somewhat back to the "drawing board again". So I was very burnt out after what happened ....as follows....

This is a copy of the URGENT email I sent to Liebank last Tuesday to explain what happened this is what happened:
" Dear LiebenkI,
cannot believe it - after sending the IOM Newspapers the rough of the AD last Friday Feb 6th.
The IOM Newspaper group just called me at 5.20 (10 minutes before they close) that the Managing Editor does not feel she can run the ad in fear of upsetting IOM residents and the other Manx Banks etc with the graphics. 10 MINUTES BEFORE THEY CLOSE THEIR DEADLINE as I was emailing them the ad for insertion. I hope their wasn’t legal sabotage – Here we are pipped at the post again!

They said they would run it as type only - take out the image, but that is not worth it (paying for the space) in its current form without changes to the copy but anyway it's too late for insertion. It could be run as a type only moving banner on the IOM today we homepage from tomorrow am. until friday.maybe? this costs 850 pounds

Or do we do it as a leaflet drop it? I think an IOM resident I know may be helpful with the printing, but I guess who ever drops it may have to be a hoody in case of CCTV camera there possibly too.

I've spent all the spent two weeks (and this last weekend without a break), on the two sets of campaign ideas and the week before those (Tues 27Th to 30Th of Jan) and spent 400 pounds going to the IOM to research and go to the hearing, not to mention other potential earnings lost to help make up for our current losses. I do have to go back to other work tomorrow, as these last 3 weeks have been all consuming for what I thought was/is a worthwhile cause.

I am so sick of this negative country - I'm out of here for good soon - sell my house as soon as the prices rise a bit again. Gone is the British Freedom of Speech that I grew up with. It appears it is better to be just a negative non-entity here: "sit down shut up and do as you’re told" and get taken for as many parking fines as possible. I am too much of a pioneering spirit to take this suffocation anymore. Labour Govs have always driven me out to work abroad and this so called New Labour is the worst of Old Labour and all the bad traits of all parties put together. Maybe that's the reason why Ziggy shot out of here too - who can blame him!

I will refund and post on the DAG whatever we agree - do we use the funds on the banner and the leaflets and a future UK campaign (after the liquidation hearing!!!!!!!?). then refund the balance to the DAG donors? Or promise donors better campaigns to come with their money? Or just refund it now which will be awkward back and forth and demotivating if we need doantions for an alternative campaign" end of email.
,
Dear fellow KFSIOM DAG sisters and brothers in this chaos, thanks for your support and words of encouragement. Please don't worry about not getting your money returned or iinternet scams or future victimization. ( none of us need extra worry at present.)
Best to all fight theft

Think of this as the Devil's advocate replying if needs be, but remember I too want a successful outcome for us.

My starting assumption is that the newspaper editors are probably not, as a group, in favour of censorship. It tends to have a history of running against their interests. And journalists typically suffer disproportionately under oppressive unimaginative regimes.

And also they only baulked at the strength of the image, the message in words they offered to print was the same. It was good agitprop. I'm in SAm many symbols of the struggles here are still breathing and not just on t-shirts in fashion outlets, just. When I was in Mexico my friend received a call asking whether he wanted to participate in armed uprising. It wasn't a joke.

You could take the judgement of the newspaper official as a compliment. Perhaps he was saying it would be too effective. You could take it as saying "I'm frightened to carry it", backlash from the establishment. Or you might take it, just, as a friend that was saying I don't think you ought to do it.

But whatever the result please don't attack our friends, our resource, not theirs.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely applaud the idea and all the work. But let's not blow it now. And sometimes you have to push the limits.

Enough tactics on line. If the IoMG is reading this then "Hello Mr Smith."

Mail me?

Only about one or two hours before the extremely last minute cancellation of my ad insertion deadline my Norton virus/spyware gave an extreme message about my computer (virtually frozen) being attacked by a bad Trojan/worm. This has never happened before to me with such a strong alert.

Luckily I had just bought a newer version of Norton Security so installed it. Then after I turned off my computer - restarted it - had the program fix the problem. In my documents many of my files had been affected only docs with to do with banks (luckily not my personal accounts) and KSIOM in the file name. Never seen this before - the files were duplicated all replacing the original document names with gobbildy goop and beginning with a squiggle and a dollar sign like ghost images of the other original docs and can’t open them to read.

The problem was fixed instantly and now Norton is reporting I’m totally secures, but…….hah hemm. Never happened to me before. Anyone else had this?

Didn't mention this to anyone before as too busy getting the ad sent over (ha ha) and didn’t want to scare anyone –don’t worry your Pay pal payments are secure – I’ve been using Pay pal for years without problems.

I was told by the IOM Newspaper Media Sales Person (very helpful) that it was the Managing Director and the Editor in Chief who made these decisions. Afer dealing with me for over a week and with the KFIOM DAG logo at the bottom of the add they suddenly decided to ask “who am I?” I said from the KFIOMDAG group (which they knew already with my tel no, email, etc) I said there will be a couple of thousand other members who will be very disappointed about this decision, and have donated to the ad can I have it put in writing who cancelled ate ad and why so I could post it on the forum to you all. At my request my contact said she would get the person/people responsible for this decision to pt this in writing to me (As I wanted to post and explain to you) early this week – i.e. now.

I forgot to mention in my post above as I was ranting about the labour gov.in the UK - the worst character in this whole chaos now seems to me: the weirdest creature that stepped out of (which planet/) from the twighlight zone . Mr Tony Brown with his daft mutton chop sideburns like an old member of the pop group Slade from the 1970's, and it seems that it's not just his physical appearance that is creepy beyond belief.

If he doesn't step and deliver and protect us immedietly he better be getting armed guards or shaving off his mutton chop side burns in an attempt to change his identity.

I have visions of the Icelandic press releases and photos, from last month, where massive crowds surronded their parlaimant buildings with bonfires day and night (Ministers too frightened to exit the building) until they brought down PM Haard's government. Last resort - I think we should all charter a plane (at cheap huge group rate, I hope) and scare the living daylights out of this little ignorant, inhuman and nasty little creep. I've been right next to him in the IOM and at the TSC hearing, and if I was that close to him now I'd physically attack him (and although I'm a woman I'm taller than this little puny evil little punk/jerk/creep/selfish bastard who never says the same thing twice or verify's anything in writing changing his dialogue by the minute to suit himself and his precious IOM. Thank God i don't live in the IOM. Probably he is one of the most dishonest people on the planet!

What hope do we have of bringing our cause out in the open on the Isle of Man when the press won't print our ad in fear of upsetting residents and banks. I am infuriated at this, on top of everything else that is going on with cover ups and the "scam" of arrangement they are trying to force on us.

We have the online news sites IOM Today and Manx Herald on our sides, would they carry the story that we cannot even get our ad into local papers.

I do not want the money back, I would rather see it go towards another effort to get noticed, or if that fails then either transfer it to Ng for upkeep of the website or to the DAG fund to continue our fight.

It cannot simply be coincidence that these people let you down 10 mins before closing; they gave you no time to go elsewhere in time for the 14th deadline -(bastards!) You gave them the ads beforehand so they already knew what they were about - and took the money (bastards!)

For me, I would like to see the effort continue if you are able (after a break) so will not expect my money to be returned, but rather used in another project in the not too distant future. Don't be too despondent, you tried your best and no one can ask for more than that - they let you and us down unfortunately.

I have pledged GBP 2000 today to The Lloyds account in Hayworths Heath. Why does that not show up? I wired the funds since PayPal has not worked for me on earlier occasions.

The funds we are talking about in this thread are the funds raised so that advertisements designed and created by "fight theft" could be placed in two IoM newspapers and on the IoM Today website. We raised the funds by sending money as "gifts" to fight theft's paypal account. "Liebenk" has published details of the funds raised, these will be updated on Sunday.

Personally, I find it good to know that my funds have arrived, otherwise money just seems to disappear!!!

My own donations to the legal fund I sent by BACS transfer (no charges). The destination account and amount is shown in my bank statement so I know I sent the money successfully, Just hope I got the account details right,

otherwise there is some lucky person out there!

OK - we'll send a donation tomorrow. Hope you'll get the ad in on time. Tks for doing all this. The ad looks great and we need to do more of this sort of thing. Our anger, frustration and anxiety must be made more visible. IOM needs to understand our dire situation.

Mars,
if you already have a paypal account, send an email to fight theft , using the DAG contact button. The email sent in reply to yours will give fight theft's email address which you can use to send a gift via paypal.
