If you are registered to vote in the UK elections, then you have an MP representing you. Even if you have not kept up registration then you can probably make a good case for contacting the MP responsible for the last address in which you were resident.

See http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/commons/l/ and enter your old postcode

I wrote to my MP, Dawn Butler on 24.12.8 and received a response from her office 2 weeks later stating that "as she was a Government Assistant Whip she was unable to raise questions due to parliamentary protocol, so her office would have to contact the relevant minister on your behalf". My response was that I thought she was my MP and was therefore able to raise questions on my behalf?

The response was that as she was a government minister she was prohibited from asking questions in Parliament due to protocol. She could, however, act on my case, by contacting the relevant minister directly. On 27 February I asked her to contact the relevant minister being the Chancellor of the Exchequer, since when, unsurprisingly I have heard nothing. This is all the more surprising as she has managed to write to the Health Minister about another issue I have raised. I will keep pressing her for a response, but I don't hold out much hope based on her office's input so far. She does have 2 residences to maintain as well so doubtless she is very busy!

If you live in EEC, you can write to your MEP.

Here's the complete list of MEP's. Choose the one(s) that are relevant for your country of residence.

I've been corresponding with the MP of the constituency I last lived in when I lived in the UK.

If you know the post code of your last UK address you can contact them via

You are in same boat as my parents. They don't have an MP and no MEP in Switzerland. They contacted the British and Icelandic consulates. Every little helps!
