It's known that ING were re-creating the transfers from Kaupthing Edge UK that had got frozen/bounced back by RBS.
In all the confusion and rush to get everything set back up, it's possible that records some KSFIOM transactions didn't get seperated out properly crept into their file.
I'd say there's a good chance that this will be an error, and that if the bank becomes aware then they'll try to reverse it.
(Iainb, you might want to get those transfer details removed...)
And at the risk of getting called pompous or something more offensive - be careful about "spending" what you think is yours just yet - there would be nothing worse than ending up with overdraft interest if the money was clawed back - whether it be right or wrong.
I note that iainb does not appear to have been back to the site today after his 'good' news of yesterday????
I would hate to think that he, I believe the expression is, a 'troll'.
So lets give him the benefit of the doubt and toast his good luck.
According to PWC Liquidator Statement of today, Mike Simpson said that he is not aware of the release of any of the "blocked" funds todate - 24.20.2008
trip trap trip trap ....not a troll
i have been on-line intermittently
i have shared everything i know with the site
i can't explain why my a/c was suddenly credited
it may be a mistake
i still have 62K at risk
regds
i have already posted all the details that i have
see below
i made ity clear that my friends transfer was from KSFUK not KSFIOM
the reason for mentioning it was that i think ING said they were unlocking transfers yesterday and that some suggested that our KSFIOM transfers were being routed via KSFUK so it was of interest (and possibly grounds for optimism) that these transfers occurred within a few hours of each other..thats all
clearly no-one else has had a transfer so i have nothing further to add
this will be my last post on this subject
regds
you must feel really happy and totally relieved. Make sure you move it to a different account asap.
If anyone else who gets their money even if not all, let everyone else know, by what means and
any other details that might be of importance. It will help everyone get the bigger picture.
Also, although this may be good news for the inflighters - it could be good news for others.
It may mean theyre slowly go through all of them and then send the rest of the 550m for
the rest of ksf(IOM) and even if most of us get something back, it will be better than having to
rely on that questionable and probably useless FSA guarantee. For the non inflighters who
didnt get actioned - I think we could also expect a a little more interest from Richard Gore.
We are going to go with him but also go with another top London Barrister that we have
connections to. When we finalise things with him, we'll ask all to join us if they want.
Good Luck to everyone
We all deserve to get our money back
spoke to Natwest
they confirmed transfer received and said funds cleared and available
why only me?
of interest...a friend who had a 10k transfer from KSFUK "frozen" on 7 Oct also reports that her money has appeared in her natwest a/c
but my account definitely with KSFIOM
we both have surnames starting with "B"
i still have doubts
not appropriate to celebrate until this whole sorry mess is sorted....
good luck all
Guess it got through by a rather fortunate accident as we haven't heard from any other lucky souls. Recommend you do celebrate, send some beer money to the team on IoM and hope tomorrow is good news for everyone so we can get one step closer to celebrating together.
Good news - Fingers crossed it is the first of a wave of returns. I too sent a CHAPS and BACS payment but in the AM of Oct 8th. Mine also was to a Natwest Account, but to Natwest here in Jersey. I have just checked and so far, no joy.
IF the £80k received by iainb is as described an "inflight transfer" from KSF (IOM)to a UK bank then agree this is important not only for the planned legal case (as debated elsewhere HOPPER thread) but also for consideration by PWC as prov liquidators. Will Simpson as the prov liquidator be made aware as this gives credence to the arguments put forward in the technical paper Hopefully the £80k will be "secured" in the meantime as iainb would not wish to risk it being placed in jeopardy again!!
Must be a great feeling iainb!! Did anyone else have an inflight trnsfer to a natwest account? Received anything?
I called Natwest a few times but they weren't helping. Convinced one of the operators to pass me to the international transfers department but the girl there told me i shouldn't have been put through and cut me off!
ian ,
i hope this is not a joke or one of those "troll" things that someone spoke about.
I made a transfer from my KEdge iom account, via their website, within minutes of you (freaky, huh?) but nothing "in flight" has landed in my nominated account (albeit that mine is with Nationwide, which is more or less the only difference in our situations re in flights.)
If you are serious and your account was with IOM then good luck to you, buddy (you are probably already drunk!) but if this is some kind of wind up...
Congratulations IanB, this gives hope to in-flighters. Just spoke to my bank but nothing there. Got some info from them though that I want to pass on. Apparently wire transfers can be recalled at any time and your receiving bank can't do anything about this. I think this stands up to some other stories we've heard so suspect its correct. Go get it out and put it under your mattress!!
it was a KSFIOM Edge account
the destination account is an internet only Uk Natwest a/c
i am overseas at present and haven't been able to get thru to bank "all our customer service executives are busy"
however it is definitely showing today on my e-statement
see below for reference
there is the usual warning about funds can be taken back etc
i acknowledge it could be a mistake
i am concerned that no-one else is apparently sharing my good fortune
time will tell
a BACS i requested at same time hasn't appeared
good luck all
That is terrific news, Iain. I actioned a CHAPS transfer of the balance of my Kaupthing Edge account - about 43k - on sunday 5th Oct in the evening. On 6th Oct my KE account listed the transaction as pending but when I checked again on Tues 7th the amount had been debited and a zero balance was showing. Like lots of hapless fellow depositors, the amount never reached my Lloyds tsb account in Jersey (I am a Jersey resident).
Have just checked my Lloyds tsb jersey account to see if it has finally arrived but as yet no joy alas. I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to banking matters but I wonder if the fact that your destination account was UK had anything to do with its successful if belated arrival. Maybe they are releasing in-flight transfers to UK destination accounts but not elsewhere?
again. let's be cautious here, but this is great news. remember natwest are the clearing bank for KSM London, who were handling chaps for KSFIOM, so one would think it would be a very short route from NW as clearer to your NW online account. many thanks
fantastic news. good for all in flighters since this sets a precedent. please can you send your paper trail/references to Gregg Lathchams, so that they can have this on file to use as a precedent in case others do not get released
brilliant
Just checked my account but alas, my transfer hasn't found its way home. My transfer was made by BACS on the 7th Oct and remains debited from my KSFIOM account.
Was it a Kaupthing UK or a Kaupthing Isle of Man account that you had the CHAPS payment from?
Kaupthing Isle of Man does not know anything about CHAPS transfers getting through to people so I am trying to determine from which account the funds have come from.
We are receiving lots of calls from customers asking why they haven't got their funds yet.
Just to confirm that once the payment has left the Isle of Man then it is our of our hands.
If funds are being released then it is down to RBS releasing funds - not Kaupthing.
PLEASE DO NOT CAST ME OUT FOR THIS - I SIMPLY WANT US ALL TO BE SURE
I have my fingers so crossed for you that I can hardly type - I do not wish to put a damper on this, but have you checked these are cleared funds?
I too have in flight money (maybe, possibly...) and the thought of it landing and then being re-called makes me sicker than if it never landed. There have been so many stories about the money in flight going onward or being returned.
I really really hope you that have the money ok and that all your other money comes home safe, same to all of us.
This is a brilliant ray for us to focus on in these dark times.
i did it via the website
at 0500 gmt on 7 Oct
i got the confirmation on screen which i ngelected to print
later my a/c was showing the debit
i'm as surprised as anyone
i wasn't expecting it
i had just enquired about joining hopper's action!
...spoke to james. They have no more information on this. Hopeful that funds may have been unfrozen - but they have been told nothing at this stage :-(
Iain, are you sure? Can you check that again? Are you dreaming?
This is very surprising. Anyone else have similar good news? £80k doesn't sound like something that could just slipped through the cracks. Something must have happened. KSF UK holding accounts released?
I started to doubt what i had seen..but it is definitely there
the reference is as follows
23 Oct 2008
ITL

80,000.00
does that help anyone..for example what is ITL?
i made a 10k BACS at the same time that has not arrived
(I should say that this was only a proportion of my deposit)
I guess it isn't a coincidence that ING said that they would be finishing the transfer and payments of Kaupthing Edge UK payments today. If this is the case, then the liklihood is that the in-transit funds would then be freed up.
I'm rather envious as I couldn't get my cash out in time - but it does mean though that potentially the $550M could wing its way back to IOM once the Kaupthing UK funds are released soon.
I would be quite hopeful that the IOM (being represented by the UK Govt in Iceland) would have preferential treatment for the remaining cash - after all, it is still UK taxpayers' money.
Possible explanation

Questionable News of 2nd Inflight funds received??.
Iainb,
This may be imortant news if a second transfer has actually been received.
However you say that your friend has received funds from KSFUK - not KSF Iom or K Edge IoM.
Can you please get your friend to post the exact details of the transfer and her subsequent receipt today, as you have done plse?
If she is not a memeber can you ask her for the details and post here?
If we can confirm more then one transfer executed from KSF IOM it would indicate that your good luck was not just a fluke.
PS: It has been posted below that KSFUK / Edge / ING were making payments today.
