I too, had posted a comment and had it returned HTML error etc. I have contact a BBC lady called Jennifer and told her that is what we suspect is the problem and asked if she can investigate.

I can't help but think that substantially more than 200 of us may have tried this blog umpteem times and got fed up, (as indeed I did the first three!) in all honesty I only persevered because of the requests on our dear lifeline here.

PLEASE - if you tried and failed - try again, for all of us.

We haven't battled the last 8+ weeks to give up now, hard (and seemingly at the moment, unrewarding) as it is, we need to keep going and do all that we can for the return of our savings, for all our sakes.

Thank you all.

I was getting a HTML Tag error when I tried to submit my comment to the PM Site. After much experimentation with my post, it seems that it didn't like an ampersand character "&". Avoid using it.

Tell others about the BBC PM site and encourage them to post there.

Let's hope our comments ruffle some feathers and finally get those two "Bird brain" politicians to accept that they dropped a clanger.

The number of bloggs on the BBC R4 blogg site is above 200 - well done folks ! Keep them coming :-)

Beware of the name Kaupthing, Singer & Friedlander! The Beeb will constantly errorize you! Substitute "&" with "and".
Thanks colin, wish I'd read your post earlier, I wasted half an hour.

Hi Steenjp,

Sorry you missed the fact about the Ampersand. I also emailed Jennifer at the BBC about this problem a day or so ago. It took me a while to work out what was wrong. I thought that some hidden characters had been pasted in along with my post. I resorted to typing part of it by hand from scratch and it still failed ! It was then that I decided to start deleting special charactes like ( and ) and & .

Regards, Colin

We also need to write again to MPs, MEPs and all other representatives about the statutory instrument the government are using to lock our money away from us!

I think it would be a good idea for everyone who sends an e-mail on this topic to copy it to John McFaddon, the Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee. The treasury should be asked why they inserted s 27 into the KSFUK transfer order and yet maintain that they only froze the assets of Landsbanki and not those of KSFUK. (remember the phone call from the treasury at the end of the Ch4 news, during which Diver & John Mc Faddon appeared?). I think they should also be aked the question of how KSFUK Edge accounts were ordered to be transferred to ING only 2 hrs 5 min after Landsbanki assets were frozen, if this hadn't all been planned in advance.

Since the site re-jig I've been unable to find the list of MP e-mail addresses so can someone please post John McFaddon's e-mail address here?

Here is a copy of most of a post from the BBC Radio 4 site placed by 'anrigaut' (I do hope he/she will not mind me reproducing it here). It succinctly puts across several points pertinent to so many of us...
Ice

  1. At 09:23am on 04 Dec 2008, anrigaut wrote:

...this was fine too - until Derbyshire sold out to Kaupthing a year ago, giving depositors with fixed term bonds no possibility to move elsewhere without penalties. I still wonder at the apparent legality of this; I didn't choose to bank with KSF - it was forced on me. Of course the Derbyshire assured us nothing would change for us, there was a parental guarantee etc etc (though no-one ever said it was an Icelandic bank). Indeed, KSF was highly rated and seemed OK. And then, less than a year later, came the bombshell...

I do understand that the UK government cannot be expected to bail out depositors in banks outside the UK - even those in Crown dependencies like IOM, BUT - and this is a big BUT - I do feel that in this instance they have some degree of moral responsibility in that their actions (probably justified) aimed at protecting depositors with KSFUK clearly precipitated the collapse of KSFIOM who had deposited a large part of their (effectively our) assets with their sister bank in the UK - funds to which they no longer have access.

The IOM authorities are desperately trying to salvage something from this mess and provide a hopefully better deal than liquidation. But it is clear that they do not have the resources to bail us out as the UK are doing onshore. I believe that, as a Crown dependency at the mercy of the actions of their big brother UK, they have the right to expect better treatment than they are currently receiving. Such as finding some way to restore the 500m GBP to it's rightful owners. We feel totally abandoned and betrayed by the British government.

... that you have seen fit to copy part of my Radio 4 ipm post here - I assure you I don't mind at all. If it can do some good, so much the better!

Can I encourage EVERYONE to post a comment on the BBC blog (see the head of this thread)? Mine (added this morning) was number 139 and there have been several more since. But there are around 2000 registered users on this site. It doesn't have to be long (though once I got started I got a bit carried away and found it quite cathartic). Just a couple of lines of support for the earlier comments would help just as much. I'm sure that if ipm could say they'd had 2000 comments they would have much more chance to get a good follow-up programme and push our cause than if they have 'only' 200 comments.

I know many of us are getting tired; me too - and I took some while to respond to this appeal. But I really think it could help our cause. We are not blitzing the media here - the BBC solicit comments on this blog.

So come on everyone - stir your stumps and get going. It's really not hard to do. Let's see those 2000 posts !!

There are now 126 comments on this BBC blog page - strange that so many commentators have unrecognizable user-names? Where are the alleged 3000 account holders of KSFIOM? Since site restructuring and the virtual loss of expat, occams razor, bblair, matt walker, cold-dose and others, the forum has taken a huge downturn. The days of 150 members and 300 guests are gone. I have received emails from members asking if I know the whereabouts of these absent friends, but I'm afraid I don't. No more than I know how to explain to people how to use the site(s) now. Clearly it seems, many have simply given up trying to use the new site(s). In the beginning it was simple for everyone to use and its simplicity scored over the partner 'lostyoursavings' site. Sorry Ng and the rest of the hardworking and tireless IT team, but that is the way of it; not so many people are as web/tech savvy as you might expect.

For the rest of us, please try and get your comments onto the BBS Radio 4 site; are they going to bother with 130 expats? We need a thousand stories clamouring for blood otherwise the cat charity and its 4000 strong petition will do for us.

I am in almost daily contact with bblair, he is still active and his knowledge and expertise is being used. He decided to contribute from behind the scenes as he felt that was the best for him. He is no longer Iom based. One contributor's comments to him and to the forum and his subsequent actions helped bblair make this decision. He said he will be back on the island soon.

expat as you know went back to Moscow and again I am in contact. He seems to have an internet connectivity problem so he is unable to access the site as often as he did before when he was based in the IoM.

Mat Walker is struggling financially and he is very low at the moment. I have asked him to contact me so I can call him back. I have not heard back as yet. If anyone has his number please call him to cheer him up or give the number to me.

The other members you mentioned I do not have any contact with

The Iom team is still focused. When expat left the island we lost a very important and vocal island based member. His enthusiasm and energy was impossible to replace. This has resulted in less reports coming out of the Iom team. This does not mean that we have not been active and striving, with others, to achieve the best possible result for us all. We are still in almost daily contact with IomGov and the gold team members and MHKs.

I hope that we can report back to the forum with some news very soon.

Dave,
Your update on the whereabouts of these absent friends is appreciated; you will know that my comments were not intended to demean or otherwise criticize the sterling work being done by the core members. I am reflecting on the loss of so many members (who then only represented a fraction of the total number of KSFIOM depositors). The fewer we are the harder we must work to achieve the same impact.

Obvious results of the delayed action?

I offered my contribution under a new username that fit the subject of my comment, as I am sure many others did too. This made more sense to outrside readers then to link with all my contributions between topics and members for the sake on continuity with this site.
I think we must keep in mind that KSFIOMDEPOSITORS.ORG Action Group, has been a well organised tremendous effort and comfort to all depositors who have made use and contributed to this site. It has also clearly been a severe thorn in the side to the opposing 'powers that be' whom have been been responisible and are accountable for the loss of our savings. Unfortunately those we are up against know that history shows too well that as long as this drags out, not only does the news worthiness lose its appeal to the Media, as well as MPs, general public, but our strength too. It is inevitable that original force of this group cannot continue as it has over extended time. I would not call defeat but people have lives to get on with, and getting too caught here cannot continue for the time that this process is being extended to take. Isn't this an obvious result of delayed action allowed by the IoM Court decision?
This results inspite of the apparent and increasing scandals at hand. I for example have 5 transfers that were made on Oct 6 & 7 th, and have not received a single word or statement about them from Mike Simpson or KSFIoM, nor statements at all from my Kaupthing Edge accounts and nothing is being done to push him to do so, inspite of legal letters sent to him over the past two months. It flies in right the face of his words in his affidavit!
I believe firmly that part of the opposing strategy is betting on this and that as time goes on this site will loose the power that is has had. We are loosly bound together, as members of this group are, along with the other depositors, and bound to be worn down in organisation, and loose incentive and motivation that made it is. Many of the well noted early contributors 'above' whom we do not hear from anymore make this apparent, ... although I believe many continiue action in one of legal groups, Latchams or Gibsons whom have grasped a small fortune through becoming members of this site, but I would question if either of these firms had the integrity to contribute anything financially to it. They have made their mark, got their clients and pulled up their ladders, and departed. We are also left with the obvious contention between some members, like Elgee and Captian M, disputes. Seeing these arguments and threats yesterday, though well written, really put me off as I am sure it does many others. However we are all badly wounded people and fighting desperately for our life savings. Along with that comes the full swng human emotions and all the symptions of Post Traumatic Stress, whether we admit or not. It comes out htere and to those whom we closest or interacting with most. Those we up against are not and to those we pleading for help from, are not in this situation, and as time goes by for them, and as this drags on, the results are inevitable.
For hope we need only look to the continuing efforts the likes of Diver, Sleepless, NG, etc and those who are focusing at the task on hand, and keeping us up to date with facts, while also knowing that there is a lot of disheartnening, confusing time wasting, that can result from getting caught up in trying to track of most of the comments and ongoing discussions that are happening here now from those of us whom are grasping at straws, waiting from something to happen, while it seems only no news or bad news results.

We have to look to our own efforts too; I see people here writing comments like 'I wrote to my MP and still haven't received a reply'. By comparison, there are others who write and write! I am working my way through all the letters of my surname down the theyworkforus MP list and have sent out scores of emails - and I've had dozens of replies! Mainly they remind me to contact the MP in my own constituency (I use my mother's postcode) but you know what? Many of them actually forward the mail to that MP themselves! I have a dialogue going with Cameron's research assistant who assures me that she gives him every letter I write (though he's yet to answer). Don't anyone tell me they've written to one MP who has not replied, there are bloody hundreds of them! Gandhi beat the British, he beat them because he didn't give in, so carry on doing something, even writing a post on the BBC Radio 4 site - it may be the one that turns things around, the one that 'clicks'...

Suppose it's just people get worn down with worry etc. However thought there was to be a "representative" to be in contact with Mike Simpson ( so he did not have to ask court again not to answer so many messages and cheaper for us re. admin fees?) - and - hopefully the lawyer(s) will say something new - as we already heard Smalley's (?) similar information some time ago.

As mentioned elsewhere, the BBC PM progamme is probably the most important broadcast forum we've tapped into yet as it feeds the commuter traffic driving home and nourishes that seed of doubt in bank depositors' minds that their savings are not safe. This message is diametrically opposed to the one HMG has sought to project that all this is all merely temporary turbulence. KSFIoM is the Fly in the Ointment pressuring Whitehall to facilitate a swift resolution. Despite HMG's protestations, such a resolution is easily within their power given that they have already resorted to what are essentially emergency powers in dealing with Kaupthing. Keep HMG's feet to the fire. comrades. Contact PM!
