My letter to the Justice Committee has finally passed the BBC moderators amd is now on the Radio 4 iPM site.

I am sure that many of you can still vent your anger on this site which has been provided by the BBC to hear our side of the story and hopefully produce a program on it. Please get posting!!

Please continue to post your stories and comments on the Radio 4 iPM page; I have just visited the site and paste below the following note from Chris Vallance:

UPDATE II: Many thanks to those of you who left comments below, particularly those who've taken the time to write at what must be a very difficult time indeed.

I'm continuing to work on the story along with my colleague Ray Furlong.

We're particularly interested in finding out more about events prior to Statutory Instrument 2674 coming into force. If you can help us with that we'd be interested in hearing from you. You can email us at ipm-at-bbc.co.uk

SI 2674 is the Transfer Order that prohibits the return of the KSFIoM assets with specific HMT approval. Seems Chris and Ray are pursuing events leading up to that event - can you help with more stories?

Thanks, Ice

Have you mentioned the No.10 petition. This sealed order may provide some of the answers to what happened and why. Can they mention it even promote it as a freedom of information issue.

The 300th comment posted by oldeexpat is on the iPM site. Oldeexpat suggests we EMAIL THE QUEEN. S/he says put 'Queen Elizabeth' in the Google search box and fill in the form. Anyway, I went to the site and found the address for the form given below.

I think this could be a masterful idea; if we all copy and paste our stories into emails to the Queen, enough of them could get through to start a query as to why so many of her subjects are being treated so absymally. We have nothing to lose but much to gain!

PS

HOW DO I WRITE TO THE QUEEN OR A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL FAMILY, OR BEHAVE WHEN I MEET THEM?

Lots of people ask this question. There are no obligatory codes of behaviour - simply courtesy.

For more formal correspondence, people write to The Queen with the formal opening 'Madam' and close the letter with the form 'I have the honour to be, Madam, Your Majesty's humble and obedient servant'.

For other members of the Royal Family the formal opening is 'Sir' or 'Madam'. Other people prefer to open their letter with 'Your Majesty' or 'Your Royal Highness' and end it with 'Yours sincerely'.

Just to confirm to everyone that at the present there are 289 postings.

NO this is not a "Dying Cause" ... but we must all help to keep it alive.

Doing something is really good therapy for depression, so if you haven't already done so, please post your story on the BBC Radio 4 "A twist in the expat tale" ... if not for yourself, please do this for others.

This is something that ALL of us can do, whether we live in the UK or not.

Thanks to everyone who has posted already.

I'd really like to do something on Christmas Day ... especially for those who have been hit really hard by this ... just to let them know that others are thinking of them.

Can anyone think of anything we can for each other on Christmas Day?

Unfortunately I cannot see the point wasting my time posting to the BBC as they probably realisticly don't give a toss about our pilght.'
Lets forget about marches and protests as the only ones who really care are ourselves.
Lets concentrate on what the DCS has to offer us aftwer liquidation in January.

Maybe not, but- judging by the two items already broadcast by the radio 4pm programme - I think you might just be wrong on this occasion. And WE, your co-depositors - are asking for your help to make this a 'cause celebre'. At the very least, there seems nothing to loose except, indeed, a few minutes (only) of your time. I don't honestly think it will prevent you from getting your life back together - as best you can in the circumstances.

And - at the risk of offending you - I can't see the point in spending time 'concentrating' on what might happen after 29 January (unless you believe in the power of concentration!). I too am hoping for a miracle on or before 29 Jan but don't see what I can do in a more direct way to influence the outcome of whatever is going on - or not - in IOM. Certainly not by sittinfg here and concentrating ...

I agree with Tricky Dicky that indiscriminate blitzing is unlikely to be productive, but this target has been carefully selected as a priority. So I BEG you, Beg (and Bill) to think again on this one, if only to support others who believe it may help.

Thanks for your reply anrigaut. Up until recently I have always been optimistic on the return of our funds, but recently when I log on to the website it is heading in all different directions what with the bikkering and soforth. I realise that we have to look for light at the end of the tunnel but at the moment our tunnel seems blocked.

Who is to blame? nobody knows for sure

I don't know - probably no one person - but I reckon the BBC has more chance of finding out than I have if they can be persuaded that an injustice has been done, intentionally or (most probably) not. Which is why I'm crusading for this particular action. With a bit of luck, you could become number 300 (over 290 at the last count)!

I'm not actually interested in apportioning blame as such, only in the sense that an acceptation (eg by HMG) of at least some degree of responsibility for our predicament is probably a pre-requisite for any action to restore our funds by whatever (legal) means. I'm sure that in politics "where there's a will, there's a way" - but fear there is no "will" (and maybe even worse) on the part of those who could unblock the situation.

I have no financial know-how whatsoever. But, whatever the good intentions (in their own interest as well as our's) of the IOM authorities, I can't see how the bank can possibly be rescued without the return of at least a large proportion of the £557m placed in the UK. Nor can I see how the IOM could afford to bail us out fully as HMG have done in UK.

Yet, for some unknown reason, I remain moderately optimistic (most of the time), though I don't know where the light might come from ...

While waiting for further (hopefully positive) developments, have I managed to convince you (and any others) to add your comment to the BBC blog? No need to write a long screed - just enough to stand up and be counted (literally)! Why not do it today?

Courage ...

It may be a time wasting exercise in your view, however, we as the DAG need to keep our plight in the public domain. We can't do this every minute of everyday, and to keep blitzing the press etc with our stories will soon turn our story sour with them. Which is why the group needs to selective about what and when to put out. However when an opportunity arises where we can 'blitz', as in this case where the BBC have asked for people to write to them. There are in fact many issues that fall out of our plight eg 'transparency of Government' for one, which the BBC may well be looking into.
I for one am certain that there are many UK citizens, resident in the UK who at the moment have no idea that their 'savings' wrapped up in 'Bonds' via IFA's and Assurance companies, are in trouble. Once they do, then the situation could start moving in our favour, especially as HMG vowed to 'protect all UK savers'

I have not sent any comments earlier because I have found it hard to communicate on this site. The stories that I have read makes me more upset than the money that I have lost in this affair. I have probably lost more money on this adventure than any earlier venture in my life. But I am lucky (if that is the right word) in that I have been burnt before and did only put a limited amount into KSFIOM. It still make me very upset. I deposited MY MONIES in what I believed a sound bank in a good jurisdiction. I am not a terrorist, criminal, tax evader etc. I am also not a citizen or resident of the UK, and quite honestly does not see that that should matter. I am a EU citizen living in Continental Europe having always paid my taxes where and when due. I am willing to help if needed but find it hard to communicate efficiently on the internet. Good luck to all of you and thanks for the good work that you have done so far.

Just added my own story. Sorry that its taken so long!

I have just had to return to the UK after being overseas traveling for the last year, due to losing ALL of my life savings and redundancy money in KSFIOM!

(I was one of the first victims of the current 'Credit Crisis' when I was made redundant last year and have been unemployed since!) I've now had to return to the UK to 'sign on', as I now have nothing left ...

Let's hope media (Panorama, The Economist or The Money Programme) picks up our story and we can once again raise the profile of our plight and embarrass the Govt into action.

Otherwise I feel all is lost ...

I've been quite unable to even find my way around this site at times (although improving now) and I dreaded attempting this 'action', but for me, luckily it was quite straightforward ... phew! The Kaupthing story is our story and this is our chance to have it heard, and to convey to the media and to the general public, the enormous injustice that has befallen us. I definitely think we should aim at gaining momentum for this posting. Please, please, if you have done nothing else so far, stir up some motivation from somewhere for this one thing ... now that over 200 depositors have made the effort, and we stand some chance of launching our case, we owe it to each other to post a comment.

I feel much better now that I have sent my comment, so hopefully, others will feel better to. And certainly, when I read the personal tragic stories on the site, I was aghast at the extent of the suffering this event has caused. It made me angry, but at the same time, more determined to do my small bit in helping some of the others who have been hit much, much harder than myself. I have lost a lot of money, yeah, but I actually feel very lucky that my life has not been so profoundly damaged as others. My best wishes for Christmas go out to everybody and I just hope that this will eventually, one way or another be a story with a happy ending.

Send your account of the story so far to the BBC .... please.

Seeing as we all agree that, posting our stories on this paticular BBC site is a 'no brainer'.Can i suggest, that all forum members are contacted by their personal email to make a posting on that site.We then get 2000 postings instead of a few hundred!
This surely could be done very quickly by our magnificent IT guru, ng.
We must remember people sometimes need, personal prompts to react.
