If you have the stomach for it, this article is worth reading - and maybe commenting on if you can manage not to be too abusive.

Prize quotes from Allan Bell's speech at an "isn't he wonderful" celebration at Villa Marina last Saturday evening :

“When I stood here a year ago the atmosphere was very different, facing a situation brought upon us by outside influences. Here we are 12 months later - the sky hasn’t caved in, the Manx economy is not in recession, we have 1.7% unemployment and we are still meeting new investors who want to join our way of life and help to create a future for the Island, especially for our young people who will one day be seeking employment.”

“I am a great believer that adversity can be a great unifier. In the last few years the Isle of Man has shown great resilience, compassion and continued to search for excellence. In adversity, the unifying strength of our nation shines through.”

Well, the sky sure has caved in for some of us. As for the compassion ... Maybe we should remind him?

The full awfullness is here: www.isleofman.com/News/article.aspx?article=30850

It appears that, contrary to iomtoday, isleofman.com allows comments. Judging from those already posted, moderation is not too severe and posts critical of IOMG members are not automatically censored. So this is another way to show the IOM that we are still here and will not go away as they would like to think. But please, hard though it may be, try to keep the anger controlled and non-abusive and avoid pure 'ranting'.

I confess I haven't quite got the stomach to read every detail as you have, but I have to say it makes pretty grim reading what I have read. I have responded to it and hope others do likewise.

Thanks Sami.

For those who haven't checked this one out yet, this is how it starts:

"Speaking at last night's Isle of Man Newspapers Excellence Awards ceremony at the Villa Marina, Mr Bell said the way that the Isle of Man had faced the situation made him feel very proud of the Island.

“When I stood here a year ago the atmosphere was very different, facing a situation brought upon us by outside influences. Here we are 12 months later - the sky hasn’t caved in ..." " .

The whole piece is truly nauseating. Seven depositors have commented so far. Maybe this should be our next target?

One of the comments just added to the Manx Herald article on the recent Select Committee hearing comes from someone working in the IOM finance sector, who says:

"I wouldn't want to clean any part of my anatomy with their newspaper excellence awards. Believe me, this is a deeply embarrassing spectacle for those of us that work in the IoM finance sector.

These parish pump politicians are lost in the real world. I know it is not enough, but you have my sympathy and hope your rights are properly addressed soon."

Would that he and others who work in the IOM finance sector and are similarly embarassed would stand up and say so - and not only in the Manx Herald

Truly Nausating
