MAT - so glad you are back in the game. please see my posting on 'general' and reply. Please as the original voice give us indication as to whether you confidant in the postings of EXPAT as he is either one extreme or another, a help or a hinderance to the forum you have established here and the work it has been doing. I think we are all sat waiting like bunnies in the headlights not knowing what to believe after being duped by our bank.

We were crying out for you to take press calls today - if you can contact them will you now?

Hi All,
Im (luckily) not directly involved in this financial chaos but keeping an eye on this forum and feel for all of you who lost money.
What i would like to say is that word of mouth and rumour has got incredible power on how people react. Mass panic and withdraws could bring everything to full stop. Not saying what you doing is not right but be careful not to create panic. Also the press is very dangerous, only publish what sell the paper even if its not the truth.
Good luck to all of you.

Actually, many people in more far flung places abroad may not know about this until they try to access their accounts - like in remoter parts of Saudi Arabia also people working on ships at sea etc

They will know. In far flung places there is nothing to do when off work except watch TV. Since you used Saudi as in example people watch Sky News and BBC news its free and you do not need to get any special kind of dish. I have colleagues who are watching it in Angola as we speak!

There is another 50 million plus out there of loosers, you cant tell me they are not doing anything and havent found the forumn.

Everyone. You'll know from my previous posts at the MSE and MSM sites I've been following this from the beginning and have done my best to unite everyone. For some of this time we (including me) have tried to maximise publicity and put pressure on as many people/organisations as possible. It would "appear", at least, there are real discussions going on behind-the-scenes to try and come to some sort of beneficial solution for us all. I have absolutely no knowledge of them myself, but I just hope it is true and even if it is only a possibility I do not want to jeopardise them. And let's face it market fear has been the real enemy throughout all of this global crisis. As someone in another post points out there may be other financial companies with money in KSF(IoM) who also stand to lose, and the relevant people on the island I have no doubt know exactly what is at stake. Also, frankly, our other options really do not cheer me up.

One point I revisited after reading some of expat's comments below: KSF(IoM) is not currently in liquidation yet. It has stopped trading and had its banking licence suspended. There is no liquidation until the petition for winding up is considered on 24th October. Perhaps there is still time for it to be saved.

I now think our best policy may be to quietly sit tight and wait to see what happens over the next few days.
I could well be wrong about this, I hope not, as I'm in the same boat as the rest of you.

expat, no idea who you are can't even hazard a guess but I agree with your call for calm rational thinking, this as with any adverse situation is precisely what's required in these strange times. I would also agree that more deals are done on the QT behind closed doors with the right sets of individuals than anyone could imagine.

Go no further than our own predicament HMG & IMG no one can tell me these two sets of ""individuals "" acting on the spur of the moment with no prior contact or forethought came up with that plan & rescue.

Yeah! of course

What do we have to lose at the moment you've got my vote

This expat thing has got me thinking big time. Is it for real or not, what he does say makes a great deal of sense the more i think about this. This is a very delicate game we are playing, do we want to cut our noses of to spite our faces, do we want to bring down the whole of the off shore banking business.
Icelandic banks for instance, 1 goes, then within 3 withing a week. Banks are the hot topic and people panic at the slightest mention of trouble, take Kauthing IOM for instance, we are in this mess because the people who got their money out and us poor soles who didn't paniced.
We hold more power than i think we give ourselves credit for, lets just be careful how we use it.
EZPAT does need to some how provide proof of his genuineness though.....howver he feels he can do that

Guys do you really think that what we say who we email will really make any difference, especially when there are more non KSF IOM customers affected. Looks to me we are a very small minority compared to those that are actually affected in the UK subsidiaries. Im hoping we will get compo @ £50,000 as per IOM FSC the bank is not yet in default so hopefully the new legislation should kick in when the bank does go into administration. Anyways this is a moment we should all take to relax, prey and be good and count on another bank to takeover so we are all secured.

Expat ... I broadly agree with your thinking at this stage. With global finance in a febrile state, and with the instant communications we're all now accustomed to, one wrong word could start a run on an institution.

People and Governments know that individuals and families and small business and charities and councils and everyone else have been severely damaged by all this. As a relatively lightly-harmed individual, I'm content to let the various expert committees and functionaries get on with their work for the moment, instead of distracting them by inevitable demands for Media inputs.

Apart from my letter to The Telegraph, of course ...

Of limited interest to most of you, but Jersey is twitching into the 21st Century, with as yet unformed proposals to protect Jersey residents banking with Jersey-based institutions [all 47 of them ]. Our Chief Minister proudly claims that only those institutions in the "Top 500" can get a license to operate here ... as he's a multi-millionaire, I wonder where he banks?

"If a Jersey-based institution fails, we could use the "Rainy Day Fund" to compensate ..." or words to that effect. Frank, you have £600M in the fund ... how far do you think that would stretch, given the wealth of some of out local "residents"?

Oh ... but the Jersey Government [The States] will be applying political pressure. I bet Iceland and the IOM and the UK are really worried about that!

Having seen that last post may I address that issue. It is not for me or anyone else to tell anyone who they should speak to, I would love to blow some holes in a few people right now, but it will not assist any of us. If you wish to talk to press it's your choce, but could I ask you to consider what you say. The human story is what I hope they want, because if the topic of compensation crops up that is what will cause the capital flight and a run on the banks. We are aware of things happening that are privately putting on that pressure and its done behind closed doors. To expose it in the media, as deep and anxious a subject as it is to us all, in my view is aill-advised. It may even be to late, watch over the weekend to see.

Some very large names are involved and I suspect what we have unlocked is the tip of the iceberg. Whether those that should act, will act in time is a different matter. If the whole system crashes then the UK is going to find it hard to support us, as we are advised they are now. They have no legislative powers and thats why we're in a crossfire.

Please try to think this trhough, you've seen the pictures of Northern Rock, you may have seen the scenes in Singapore at AIG. You may be aware of incidents in the USA. That is what will happen if this is exposed by the press. I have wittnessed capital flight at around 20-30 million a week in one country a few years ago, it is not a pretty site.

Pressure on the powers that be through the media, at this moment, is not going to achieve what you might think in my view, it will bring the house down around our ears. becaue the public with deposits will act first and fast and think later. Many of you tried to withdraw money this week and whatever I think of Docherty and how he acted, I do understand that wanted to try to avoid a run on the bank. He played his cards badly I know and look what happened!

Think about it please.

Expat, your response is concerning - why is the reference to 60 hours ie watch the weekend? This void of information could cause additional fear as Kiwi 38 correctly notes below

QUESTION FROM KIWI 38 (who cant get on this website):

My point about the 60 hours is that if EXPAT really has had high level talks with people who can sort this out then something must happen before opening on Monday as the void of info will be replaced by fear and may cause a run in the IOM which would probably mean game over. I would simply be interested to hear his reply to this point (no one has asked it yet) as surely something must happen this weekend as to leave it until Tuesdy could be 24 hours too late.

We only need to wait to Tuesday, whereas it could take a lifetime to get any compensation. 4 days is nothing!!!!

please see reply from Kiwi 38 - he is willing to get on a plane to IOM if he can be of any help assistance. If Kiwi38 can be of any assistance, please can you provide him with a temp email address on this site so that he may reach out to you. We all need the help that we can.....

Reply from Kiwi38:

Thanks Guttered. I see you posted my words on the other site (I have tried to join and rejoin many times today - it is easy to join but the e-mail never arrives).

I would be happy to put my key board down and wait if I had some level of comfort. Alternatively I would get on a plane in the morning and go to IOM to help the fight if that ws what Expat wanted.

Saying that I think we have few options and I agree with you.
I realise quiet may be required, but is there any more you can elaborate on here to reassure people that whatever steps that are being taken are being done so in the interests of ALL KSF customers, and not just some?

Mikepapa, some of us found out about that last night, another reason for calm. It is as far as I know expressions of interest at this stage. Not an offer yet. I could make an uneducated guess as to whom, but its pointless. What experience has taught me though is that it is done behind closed doors and publicity can kill it. And again I reiterate we are, at least in principle, not as alone as you might think. We have had that assurance. I am sorry I cannot elaborate, but this is not the moment to rock boats in such stormy seas. I don't know about you, but I don't have a lifeboat at present!

As to the effects, it depends on the terms of the deal and who is supporting whom. What I can say is that Tuesday could be an interesting day!

I like all of you have a great deal at stake here, just about all I have as it happens. In a crisis calm thinking and action is required, panic and desperation will cost us all dearly. A small group of us with millions at stake are quitely working behind the scenes at the levels I hope you will all appreciate in the end. The message we take to those that are in a position to act is of a catasrophe for IoM, not just us. A run on the banks will sink the IoM and our hopes of retreval with it. I want ALL of my money not a bit as a handout. We are caught here in a crossfire between the UK and Icland, we are however, not as alone as some would imagine.
The message we have transmitted has been heard, I cannot say we will succeed, I cannot say those that can act will act in time. I suspect Monday could be a terrifyinmg day for this island is the press are allowed emotional access to this.
Please, please try to understand how a run on the banks works and how it effects us all. We are desperately trying to assist all concerned here, a group who never met until yeasterday are at this moment calm and cohesive in spite of the pain inside us.
I beg your patience and have travelled a long way to do this, and now others of like mind we do not want this to go up in smoke because of a desire to scream out loud.

Dear Expat

On the moneysupermarketwebsite - see this link

Kiwi38 wanted to reach out but did not know how to get on this website (dont know why he could not register - was pretty easy to do so) ...anyway he had written the following as he wanted to reach out to you to help in anyway. please can you reply and elaborate in a little more detail?

On http://www.ksfiomdepositors.com/cms/?q=node/24 "expat" posted at 02.37 (maybe Aussie time) that he and a small Group with millions at stake were working behind the scenes to sort this out.

I know how business is done so this does give me some comfort however I wish I could get on to that web site to comment as to ask for calm and effectively media silence for 5 days, until Tuesday, when many of us have our life savings at risk is hard to swallow without any level of detail. Could someone please ask him to elaborate a little. I am happy to trust a fellow victim to sort it out but would like to knoo the basic detail of a plan if possible.

I have a lot to lose here and am a business man so would be only to happy to help in any way possible including travel to the IOM as required.

Thank you for trying to set our minds at rest. No-one wants a run on the IOM banks especially as many of us, like me, have ALL their retirement income-generating savings spread through various IOM offshore banks and locked into 1-year fixed income bonds. If the IOM banks go down then, as an overseas UK expat I will have nothing on which to live, given that the UK pension is a sick joke.
I'm happy to go along with the 'leave it in the bank for 12-18 - months' option suggested earlier, if that helps to sell the IOM branch of KFS - a great idea if it works.
Count me in - after all, I will shortly having nothing left to lose and no remaining options.

Thank you. I understand what

I wrote to Channel 4 News and received a very quick reply - news(?)channel4 [dot] com

It seems they are quite interested in following this up. One thing they were trying to ascertain was how many depositors are affected. I had to say I didn't know apart from the number of people on these forums, but told them to try to get through to any of these for comment, which I am posting here for the benefit of other media visiting here:

Any chance you can turn some of the textural commentary info into Stats - ie a table listing for the home page showing how many of us there are and a running total of the deposits in question?

Well I called the BBC and they said that they already had someone lined up for the interview though they were interested in my story. I mentioned the 12-18 month 'escrow' idea and that I thought that we would not generally get much sympathy due to the misconception that 'only fat cats' put money in offshore banks - but I explained some of the stories on this site and the two other boards.

The researcher did say that she was getting a lot of calls - so well done everyone who did!

I hope this will start getting some attention..
