plea for simplicity

I wish the website for all this was simpler to use for us technophobes; I find it all quite daunting so I don't access and read it as much as I'd like... there are too many options and too much information...

Clearly if somebody manually

Clearly if somebody manually collates the "essential" information and presents it as a list of posts, then that list is easy to work with. So far nobody has volunteered to do that here, despite that I've offered to provide the facility on several occasions.

Another factor is that people often post comments which should be new topics. Topics are listed in various views and searches and offer subscription options. If the thread goes off topic and continues, it may be convenient for those who are following the thread, but for someone arriving later it is often very inconvenient, because a new topic that was posted as a comment will not be listed as a topic.

It would be great if the system could automatically sort out the what from the chaff, but that's not feasible, the only way to do it is by manual selection, which is how LJ's alternative public site works.

This topic has been raised &

This topic has been raised & discussed previously & there was a poll, the results of which showed that of those who voted a large majority of members were in favour of a new easy-to-navigate website that gave the essential information that many members sought without having to navigate through complicated menus.

Consequently an alternative complementary public website is available at http://www.kaupthingiom-dag.co.uk It isn't interactive like the Chat Forum, but there is opportunity to write letters, post comments in the guest book and make comments in response to the blog topics.

Hmmm... it doesn't appear on

Hmmm... it doesn't appear on the entry page (the one with the photos) but should appear everywhere else. Try doing a full browser refresh (hold down the Ctrl key and click refresh or press the F5 key).

I'm very keen to hear

I'm very keen to hear suggestions fro an improved menu structure. On the public site the is a multi-level drop-down menu system, the same can be implemented here. But the actual structure of the menu needs some thought (the same is true on the public site.)

With respect, a big problem is lack of familiarity with the site rather than it being difficult to use. Buy a new mobile phone and it will almost always be difficult to use until you get used to it.

Noted. The subscriptions

Noted. The subscriptions feature should help a lot, if you can at least set that up, as the information will come to you by email rather than you have to go round the site looking for it. I would suggest you use the Read All link as a general purpose way of finding things on the site.

I am thinking about trying to provide a simplified view of the site, where all but basic functionality is hidden, and perhaps content is filtered to show only key topics. The problem would be how to define what is a key topic - it would probably be based on a sufficient number of other people having marked it as a key topic.

I also think the site has

I also think the site has evolved to be complicated to navigate, i only now use the recent post tab.
